Once you arrive at the airport and park your car, the BY FAR most dangerous part of your journey is over. Think about it - how often do you hear about a plane crash on the news (especially ones of reputable airlines, such as the ones you're flying on)? Probably less than once a year. Now think how many thousands of flights happen every day.
If you are really scared, read up on how airplanes work so that you're not freaked out if you hear a thump-thump-thump noise or a high-pitched whine or something, or if you see the flaps move on the wings during flight.
Also, every crucial system on an airplane has a backup, and in most cases the backup has a backup. Even if an engine goes out the instant before the plane takes off, the other engine(s) still (due to legal requirement for the sole purpose of your safety) have the power to let the plane take off and fly.
Finally, (and again I stress that airplane crashes are ridiculously rare and you WON'T be in one) people do survive airplane crashes sometimes. There was one in Hawaii in the 70s or so when the plane basically turned into a convertible. The stewardess died but all the passengers lived, because they had their seatbelts on so they didn't fly out. The reason for this crash was cracks in the plane's hull, and as a result of that they have to check for that much more thoroughly now. A morbid kind of silver lining, but every time there is a plane crash, the FAA issues new rules that make the particular circumstances that caused that crash not able to ever happen again. |

Flying in an airplane is much safer than driving a car. Dont worry about it just have fun on vacation! You're more likely to win the lottery than you are to be in a plane crash. You're more likely to be struck by lightning 3 times than you are to be in a plane crash. So don't worry about it and have fun on vacation! |

No if it goes wrong you are not necessarily dead.
Honestly, you have nothingg at ALL to worry about. Being in a plane is safer than driving in a car. Trust me, I am a pilot for jetBlue |

Air travel is easily more safer than road travel. Look at how many injuries and deaths are caused by vehicle crashes. And think of how many flights there is per day worldwide without any problems at all. And its not like the sky is full of traffic. There is a big difference. Enjoy you're flying trips and don't worry :-) |

Yes, if it goes wrong you are probably dead. But that is very unlikely. The rate of deaths from car accidents per mile is WAY higher than it is for airplanes.
I have flown in the big planes with 11 seats and 2 aisles across and thousands of seats. I have also flown in the tiny little planes with 8 passenger seats, assuming all the folding seats are clicked in place. I never had problems with any of them.
The one type of dangerous flying is with a non-professional pilot in a personal plane. But it doesn't sound like you have any of that planned. |
