Flying on a plane tomorrow?

Tomorrow I am flying up to Illinois from Washington to see my brother graduate from bootcamp... I have a big fear of flying. I am scared we are going to crash, or a terrorism related thing... Can anyone reassure me?

there are over 1000 flights a day, aproximatelly 2 crash per year , thats mean you have a 1 in 1 in 182,000.5 chances of crashing.
Airplanes are built to be EXTREMLY SAFE, airlines dont want to crash
after 9/11 so much security makes any attempt of terrorism virtually umpossible

Andy
Life itself is a risk. How many people go to work, have car accidents and don't return home ever.
I don't think anything related to terrorism could happen since airports have been really working hard on the security issues.
Before a flight takes off, the Captain makes an inspection himself, there is also a mechanic there checking the aircraft, if ANYTHING would be wrong, even a small bulb issue, the first ones to get off that plane would be the crew members, they also have families and they would not risk their lives.
So relax, don't worry.

just try not to think about the downsides about it. :] i dont think that any of that is going to happen on your trip. so just relax and think about all the good things :]

Actually, your chances are much better than the other posters suggest. Your odds of dying on your next flight are somewhere between one in 9 million and one in 60 million.

And of all the US plane crashes between 1983 and 2000, 95.7% of all passengers survived.

Read the multi-part article linked below.

dont worry about it. its all the movies that make it seem that planes are like that but there not bad. listen to music to get your mind off of it and just relax. but dont sit near the bathrooms! =]

i have gone on a plane so many times..
just listen to your ipod and relax
it might feel weird when you first take off but, it really cool if you think about.
and if it helps try to get seat by an emergency exit.
try to bring a really good magazine or book and lots of gum
just try not to worry it will be fine

You will be just fine, and nothing will happen. Ever since 9-11, airports are so up-tight about everything, if you even suggest something that involves terrism in a joking matter you end up with a federal offence.

I was the same way my first time. You can go to the local drugstore and pick up a relaxer for anxiety on plane rides. I forget the exact name of it. Just remember to relax & that it will be fine!

yeah i also wuz flying like 4 times ! but dont worry just relax it's fun

Ash
I am going to be honest I have never been on a plane before in my life and I can't reassure you nothing "bad" will happen but try and keep calm. Don't think about those things and keep your self busy with activities during the ride, just do do anything to keep your mind off of your worries.

if you must worry, planes usually only crash on take off and on landings. so, worry for 10 mins after take off and 10 mins before landing

brndnhuffman
theres only a 78% chance you'll die in a plane crash so don't worry
