For all the smokers out there, how'd you do it?

Ive a 6 hour flight, plus time spent in the airport checking in and such, and I currently like to smoke once every hour or two. How'd you smokers get through your trips? i thought of patcha and gum but does it work if your not trying to quit? my other idea is to chain smoke a bunch before the flight so my body's not craving it and almost sick of it.
And yes, yes i know the best way is just to quit... I get to start working on it in just over a month cause ill be moving away from my smoker roommates where the temptation is just to great......
