For being stuck in the airport: what is the longest?

what is the longest you have ever been stuck at the airport? hours and or days?

and what do the airlines and airport do for you if you are stuck in the airport? and what can you to get unstuck. what if exchanging airlines is the only way and will they waive it if.

I had a bad dream of a cancelled flight last night as that happened to me flying to O hare

Which airport is the worst FOR CANCELLED FLIGHTS OR DELAYS AND WHY??

how come bigger airports are more prone to cancellations?

usually if it's too serious or long they will reschedule you for the next day, give you free hotel rooms, food vouchers, and a free voucher for your next plane trip.

I hate the short delays (no comps) but if it's on the way back from vaction the really long delays are nice if it means free stuff.

Not me personally, but people have gotten stuck for days. If it's a weather issue, then the airlines don't do much (in the way of hotel, etc). The weather is something the airlines can't control. If the delay is due to mechanical issues, then the airline will provide hotel.

The bigger airports are more prone to cancellations because they have a lot more flights per day than the smaller airports. If that airport is experiencing weather problems, ATC can/will/does tell the airlines they need to cancel X amount of flights.

Worst airports for canceled and delayed flights tend to be ORD (thunderstorms, snow), NYC area airports (rain, snow, congestion/traffic), SFO (fog)....but all airports experience cancellations and delays....it's all part of the fun of flying!

I flew Syrian Arab Airlines and was delayed by 36 hours in Rome.
A KLM flight from Amsterdam to Almaty was scheduled for 7 hours but took 6 days.
I was due to fly with the RAF, but they took off 3 hours early and left all the passengers behind.
One of my worst was with Delta, they "forgot to service the plane", then couldn't undo the cowling screws, the techie attacked it with a hammer and chisel and damaged it so badly they had to get a new plane - 8 hour delay.

B!
on my way to LAX for a stop over on my way to Sydney, we arrived early and had a long wait before then too. I was in LAX for around 15 or 16 hours. It freaking sucked!

Usually airlines are pretty good at switching your flights up to get you where you need to be. On my way back from Sydney my flight was going to be super delayed but they route and took no time at all, no extra charge, got home earlier than planne. Generally they are pretty good with things like that!

Well I would say my plane was delayed 4 hours for "engine problems" nice huh? I would say in America the worst for delays is Ohare in Chicago, IL ... I go there every other month and my flight has been delayed many times.. and cancelled where I had to stay there for another week. It's due to ice on the runway.. and the extreme winters they have :x I think bigger airports are prone to cancellations most likely because of traffic on the runway.

Canadian Forces Base Trenton, on a military flight going to Alert. This was two weeks after a crash that killed many on the plane. We were flying the same kind of plane, and at that point, they did not know what caused the crash. Every little twitch was enough to ground the planes.

The delay was around 4 days, and there was not much they could do about it. The AMU (terminal) was small, with little to entertain passengers. Not fun!

blimey, ten questions in one eh? lol!
the longest ive been delayed is 3 hours. if your stuck over night they will arrange accomodation and travel to the accomodation for that night or until they can fly you to your destination. I'm not sure if the airline you're using will happily send you on your way with another company, you'd possibly have to pay for a whole new ticket, so id wait it out.
Thompson are the worst company (I suggest First Choice) and obviously Heathrow & Gatwick are prone to screw ups.
and im guessing their more prone to cancellations because they have the most numbers of flights coming in/out so that would add up to the highest percentage as smaller airports cant accomodate such heavy masses of airplanes.

had a bad dream of a cancelled flight last night as that happened to me flying to O hare -

OMG, lol - you dreamed my reality! - i was stuck at O'Hare for TWELVE HOURS once - and there was NO storm! - our flight was cancelled due to mechanical problems - and it was the last flight of the day for that airline!

to top it off, that was our *connecting* flight to the Indy 500, which was going to start before the following day's next flight! - and we had NO money to buy tickets with another airline to get there - and the prices for the tickets with the other airlines were *astronomically* expensive!

i ended up acting like the Mom in "Home Alone" - i freaked out SO bad (try crying - it works!), that United Airlines finally so kindly offered us two FREE seats - and it wasn't even their airline that we were supposed to be flying with in the first place!

thank santa for the nice people at United. :)

did i mention why our flight was late?
the toilet leaked all over the flight deck.
