If you get motion sick easily, you may be more comfortable if you take some sort of motion sickness drug before you fly. Note that you must take the drugs before you get sick; there is unfortunately nothing that will relieve motion sickness once it has started.
A drug of choice is Dimenhydrinate (marketed under brand names Dramamine and Gravol), a readily-obtained over-the-counter medication. Unlike Bonine (Meclizine hydrochloride) another over-the-counter drug, it tends to make one drowsy. I feel that this is a benefit on a long plane ride! Another motion sickness treatment (usually used for boating) is scopalamine patches. These patches go behind the ear, and usually have no noticeable side effects. Furthermore, there can be unpleasant side effects, such as dry mouth, blurry vision.
Motion sickness is caused in part by a discrepancy between what the eye sees and what the inner ear feels. (This is why the driver of a car gets sick much less frequently than a passenger: the driver is continuously watching the road, getting a good idea of what is coming next.) It may help to close your eyes the moment you start to consider thinking about getting airsick.
If you do come down with discomfort, one relatively easy but embarrassing way to feel better is to empty your stomach. "Barf bags" are usually located in the pouch on the back of the seat in front of you. Frequently, using them reduces and/or eliminates the discomfort. |

take a Dramamine or Bonine about an hour before you get on the plane....no air sickness! you can buy it off the shelf at any pharmacy |

try to relax, and remember that there is less probability of being in a plane crash than a car crash. |

Try to choose a seat where you will experience the least motion. The middle of an airplane over the wing is the calmest area of an airplane |

You won't get sick. Even If you do they give paper bags for hyperventilating and or puke. Usually there is a small change you will get sick because you'll be paranoid about people on the plane (make sure no-one is doing anything suspicious). And you shouldn't fear turbulence on a plane because there is about a .25% chance the plane will go down, so don't worry. |

eat a light lunch, don't drink alchohol, coz it will dehydrate you instead. drink lots of water. if you have a laptop or a movie viewer then carry some really funny movies or some really engrossing movies so keep you occupied
happy journey |

what i do to get my mind over turbulence is remembering that turbulence has nothing to do with the plane.and that its just air pockets that are making the plane move.and that turbulence is NEVER the cause of plane crashes. |

I worked for an airline for many years and had to fly all the time and I get motion sick with everything. You can not prevent motion sickness per say, it is an imbalance in your ear. For some people dramamine and bonine work, but they make you dowsy and are not 100%. Try sitting as close to the front as possible so you dont feel the drag as much during take off and landing. Sit in front of the wings if possible. Also, dont be afraid of turbulance. I was on a flight from Atlanta going to Las Vegas where I worked and a pilot was sitting next to me and noticed I grabbed the arm rests and started to hyperventilate. He asked me, "How long have you worked for this airline? Shouldnt you be used to this by now?" I glared at him. He put his paper down and said, "Sweety, its only pot holes in the sky." Ever since then, I have never gotten nervous when we hit rough air. I can breathe through it and can actually stay relaxed and sleep through it even. While you cant predict rough air, remember to keep your seat belt on. The captain will either climb alititude to avoid the rough air, or if its on decent he will decend as safely as possible. Its usually when you are flying through a cloud on take off or decent that the air is unstable and gets a bit shakey. Just remember to breathe and repeat "Its only pot holes in the sky".
A few weeks ago they did an episode on Myth Busters testing different motion sickness remedies. They tested the arm bands, the pills and ginger tablets. Ginger tablets have been used by seaman for many centuries and were actually the best remedy by both of the guys who tested them. You can also get a patch from your doctor to put behind your ear. For some people it works, it did for my sister, but not for my mom.
Hope this helps. |
