Hand luggage on flights had become a joke with people taking huge bags. Should the new rules stay?

Yes, everyone will get in their seats quicker, and out at the end of the flight too.

a bag ia a bag, your not a ramper, so i wouldnt worry about it. There still are weight restrictions, and if you go over you must pay, over 100 pounds is cargo, which is a no-go.

Yes- if it is safer that is fine with me. But, as a mum of 2 toddlers, sometimes a small bag just is not practical. The rules need to be sensible...

i say get rid of carry-ons all together. people always bring on more that they are allowed and there isn't enough overhead space... also, they are now a new threat on airliners!

I agree with you, but i think we should be allowed hand luggage, but stricter rules should apply so people are not allowed to take large bags as hand luggage.

I think people need to be reasonable. Yes, I agree, many people take far too much on airplanes as carry on luggage, but in some cases there are reasons.

I'm a violinist, with a rather expensive violin (selling it would buy me a car). I cannot check my instrument for fear of it being crushed beneath someone's gigantic suitcase. Also, the temperature extremes of the baggae compartment could cause irreparable damage.

Recently, I moved cross country. Between three people, we had two animals, three computers, and a violin, none of which could be checked. None of this was carry on luggage per se, but also, none of it could be checked.

People shouldn't take huge bags, and the rules defining "carry on" and "personal item" should be enforced.

But i agree with you - some people had gone too far with taking suitcases on as hand luggage. Airlines should have been more considerate to their other passengers, and put a stricter size limit on years ago.

As long as your carry ons fit under the seat in front of you and/or in the overhead compartment (and don't take up more room than is allowed like some big rolling bags) people should be allowed to take their carry ons. In the past, when I've flown overseas, I've always packed enough in my carry ons that I could survive at least a week from what was in them. I never took up too much space or forced someone else to find another place to stow their stuff because I had too much. I was never too keen on the idea of having my luggage lost and being stuck with just the clothes on my back, especially when I was going to be somewhere for a couple months to a year.

And for short trips, I like to carry everything on with me so I don't have to go stand around the carousel waiting for my bag to (hopefully) come around so I could pick it up and go on my way. Just because you'd rather check your stuff doesn't mean I should have to (as long as my stuff isn't encroaching on your space). But I haven't flown since the new restrictions. They sound really annoying.
