Has anyones luggage ever been lost?

I just got back from a trip on Southwest airlines and it was only an hour flight..and guess what? My luggage was lost!! Everything in there, including my souvenirs (first trip in Vegas). What happened with you and where did you go from there? I 'm not sure what to do...I'm so frustrated!

I have lost my luggage a lot over the years, but only one bag disappeared and never came back to me. It went from Bermuda to India more than 40 years ago, and I have never seen it since! Bad! Bad suitcase!
One other time, I lost all my college textbooks for morethan a month and my jeans. It did return, but only after my exams. That was a disaster, and I had to but some new books.
When you came home, I am sure you had a bag tag on it, and you almost certainly filled out a "missing bag" form at the Southwest Airlines counter. Probably, it will be delivered directly to your door within a day or two.
I would be on the phone every day to their Customer reliations center to check on it: 214-792-4223
Mon - Fri, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm (Central Time)
One person posted a thread last year claiming you could not even file a claim until 5 days had passed.
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=484001
I would ask them NOW to send, e-mail or FAX me a claim form.
Hope it all works out.

ah only like a month ago northwestern lost my luggage on a short 1 hour new york - detroit flight

what happened was i reported it right after i landed and couldnt find it, in less than 24 hours they delivered it to my front door with an apology letter

not bad but i wish they hadnt lost it in the first place

if you dont get it call call call them until they find it or reimburse you

We lost our luggage on a wintertime flight to Hawaii. We spent the first few days on the beach in our long winter clothes. That was not a fun experience. Now I know to always ask for the airline to pay me for a set of clothes to use until the luggage arrives. Usually they will because they have a guilty conscience about their carelessness.

it usually turns up later - just file a complaint - and make sure you follow up a day or so later - if not you are eligible for compensation - i dont know the limits but maybe $500 - still wwont get you your souvenirs, though.

yes. i experienced it also with Delta airlines. when delta transferred us to american airlines, supposedly to help us catch up with our int'l flight, they forgot to check in our luggage with american airlines. what they said to us, is file a baggage lost to american airlines but we plead with delta if there's anyway they could help us. so delta called their dallas airport and well the baggage is still there so, they just transferred our baggage to their next flight while we wait.

i guess the best thing you need to do is just file a baggage lost to southwest airlines.

i know this is so frustating. i never want to experience it again.

Yes, and it sucks. I actually went for a three week vacation and they lost three out of my four suitcases and I didnt get them back until two weeks into my vacation. It sucked, and its hard to get any compensation. Try calling the airlines over and over again.Nag them, be bitchy and everything so you can get your luggage. They are lazy in there right now because of the hightened security. Good Luck

My luggage was lost on a flight from Phoenix to Burbank and it was never found. I received a check from Southwest about 2 months later but it barely covered the cost of the luggage, which I had borrowed from my sister. All my new clothes and souvenirs were gone.

Heck -- I lost mine in RUSSIA -- at the beginning of a 10 day trip!! I was left in a Communist country (this was a while ago!) with nothing but the clothes on my back in the middle of April -- and it was freezing there!! Luckily, I'd worn my coat onto the plane and still had it with me. Do you know, they do not have anything smaller than HUGE in Russia! LOL!!

Anyway, you need to report your loss to the airline as soon as possible. If you checked in your luggage, you should have the tags for the bags! You need to describe the bags and what is in them, etc. They have the forms for this and you will have to fill them out. They really are very good about finding this stuff and, while it does happen a lot, they usually manage to find it very quickly and return it to you.

Mine followed me all around Russia, delayed by about 3 days, until it finally caught up to me at home a week late!! All my lovely outfits I'd packed so carefully -- and I wore the same 2 pairs of pants the whole time (I was able to borrow a pair of jeans from the tour leader, thank God!). A trip to remember.

Good luck in getting your stuff back.

Did you lodge a complaint with the airport athorities. If not then first do that. If they tell you that they were not able to find it out the u cannot do anything else.

If you are going to fly, sooner or later your luggage will be lost. Mine has been lost twice so far and both times it was recovered.

I asked the ticket agent if they could send my luggage to New York City and then to Louisville and then to Portland. He said, "No, that was not possible."I retorted, "Why not you did it last month." :-)

mzmaya14
yeah it really sucks. make sure you keep calling untill they send you your luggage. it took them 4 days to send mine but i finally got it

Call and file a missing luggage report. Hopefully it will show up. Ask St. Anthony to help your lost luggage find its way back to you.

Yes. It happens. If you have ID on and inside your bag you should get it back. Many airlines are flying freight and mail in addition to a plane load of passenger's luggage. And where do you think your baggage is on the priority list?

The first thing to do it report the missing bag as soon as the carousel it was on gets turned off after landing. You'd be surprised at how many bags wind up on the wrong carousel.

Added security is also cutting down the time to get bags to the correct plane, so there is a chance it wound up left behind, or is at another airport. As long as the destination tag is scanned at each stop the airlines know where everything was last seen.
