Have experience buying air tickets on-line? |
There are SO many sites to choose from!! I would like to get the cheapest airfare for a ticket within the states. (U.S) I would not like to go through one of those "auction" type deals, where you really don't know what you will end up with. Hoping for soomething around Mothers Day, but was thinking I better get on it, as that may be a heavy travel day. Would love to hear about any experience you may have had, or advice. Thanks!! Additional Details Thanks all!!! Good info! |

Southwest is cheapest. Steer clear of Spirit. Try Travelocity and Orbitz ~ compare prices on each and then go directly to the website of the airline. This may take time, but will save you $$. |

I have had great experience with Expedia. The fares they come up are equal to other sites I try. They only charge a $5.00 booking fee (almost all sites charge that fee now).
You may have good luck booking directly from the airline's website; I have often found they have different deals.
Do your research, but when you find the flight and fare you want, buy it right away. I've had the experience of a fare going up precipitously ten minutes after the first quote. |

I have purchased online travel tickets a number of times. The further in advance you buy the better the deal, unless a last minute deal will work for you. I get the best deals at www.cheaptickets.com and www.expedia.com I once found a better deal after making a purchase at Cheap Tickets and they refunded me the difference. |

Hi,
I do it fairly often as I travel for my job. I used to purchase flights from big sites but lately I have been using a site called http://www.globester.com. They have some incredible cheap fares. Check it out.

I did, I just recently flew out to NY with Delta Airlines. It was so easy and the flight had more leg room than most airlines do but not a T.V in each seat but if your just flying within states then it doesn't matter much.
Anyway as soon as you confirm your buying the E-ticket the company will send you an email and e-ticket information that may come 2 weeks prior to your departure which you have to print off to take with you and take it to the ticket desk and in return you will get your ticket.
Easy as pie. |

What I usually do is check the site www.orbitz.com. Once I check those fares, I usually see which one is cheapest and which one I like with the layovers and connecting cities. Then, I'll write that airline down, and go to southwest.com since they do not appear on Orbitz. Then I see which price was cheaper, the one I had from Orbitz or Southwest. If the one from Orbitz was cheaper, than I would go to the airline's website.
For example, if the cheapest airline I found was Delta on Orbitz.com, then I'd go to Delta's website and book there.
If you book on the actual airline's website, you have a chance of saving a few dollars because airlines will give you deals if you book on their site.
Now, I don't know where you live, but here are some places where typically airlines are cheapest:
Atlanta or JFK - Delta
Dallas - American Airlines
Cleveland or Newark - Continental
Phildelphia or Charlotte - US Airways
Chicago (ORD) - United
Chicago Midway, Orlando, or Houston Hobby - Southwest
JFK or Long Beach, CA - Jetblue
There are more, but do not go by my list. You should most definitly search on orbitz and compare the airlines before you make your decsion.
Good luck! |

Buy your tickets directly from the airline. They offer the lowest possible fare available and doesn't have all those fees associated with expedia and travelocity for example.
Southwest Airlines usually has the lowest fares. |
