Have you ever left your cell phone on during a flight?

So have you ever left your cell phone on during a flight?

I don't mean on purpose...or if you did I guess that counts too.

Yes -please don't punish me

If what you are really asking is whether it did anything to interfere with flight controls -- it wouldn't have.

It is pretty well known by now that cell phones do not in any way harm the pilot's and navigator's jobs.

However, the service providers can't tell where you are when you are up in a plane, so they don't know how to bill you. That is why they lobbied the FAA to prohibit cell phone use on airplanes. They say it's for safety so people will actually do it. (And you will be punished if you're caught, whatever the reason for the prohibition.)

Jenny
Yeah I forgot to once. But i realized it during the flight and turned it off. I wasn't getting reception anyways so it was just killing battery. And for the record, my flight was very smooth.

I did accidentally once. The concern is that the cell phone, which sends out a signal whenever it is on, will interfere with the plane's navigation. However, there is no reported case of this happening. It is just the FAA being super cautious because there is no way for the FAA to test all the different cell phones to see if any do cause a problem.

D
It really doesn't bother the planes navigation system... at least not just one cell phone, and you'd have to be talking or sending or receiving a message. It's just really just a precaution so everyone won't have their phones on... that would be a problem.

I did when I received a blackberry -- I didn't know you have to switch off the receiver. I used to turn off my cell by powering down...but this only put the blackberry in 'standby' mode.

the good news is that the plane didn't crash and no one has looked me up to prosecute me!

SNL
i always leave it on. it's the only instruction that i can't follow when boarding a plane. i wanted to see what will happen if i leave my cell on. nothing happened. but i don't use it when i'm on board any plane. my curiosity always gets the best of me. hmmm.

I did once by accident. It was in the overhead compartment and I completely spaced out turning it off before we took off.

HeadOverHeels=]
yes, it ran out of battery so quickly.

It wasn't on purpose but it dosen't matter cause you can use your cell phone on the plane anyway. They usually make a anouncement once you are up in the air and the seat bealt light goes off. You just can't use it when the are taking off and when landing.

no way girl! my CELL PHONE is my life.

Eroc S
