yes i have. sounds like a long trip so bring gum(for takeoff and landing) and a good book to read and some music helps too. |

Make sure that you take Dramamine, for motion sickness just in case. And take gum. When you take off and land chew gum and your ears wont pop. Try to be at the airport 2 hours early so you are not rushing to find your gate and be sure to bring your drivers license. Any aerosol cans, toothpaste, cologne, etc must be checked onto the plane, dont try to carry any of that on, as well as lighters. Have fun. Hope this helped. |

You will be fine! Have you ever been on a roller coaster? It kind of feels like that when you are taking off or landing (the stomach dropping feeling), but after that, you won't even notice you are in the air. Have fun on your trip! |

they tell you everything you need to know on the plane...
like all the safety & stuff.
i was terrified to go on but its not that bad |

Chew bubble gum durning take off and landings...its help from stopping the ear popping. Also just relax its not that bad. I travel from Indiana to England all the time. You get use to it! But bring lots of things to read and music to listen to, it will keep your mind off of the fact you are up in the air! Hope this helps! |

I have ridden on a plane before. I think others have pretty much covered most things, but I would suggest taking some sinus medication with you just in case. Chewing gum does not help me at all! A co-worker suggested that I take sinus medication while we're waiting to take off and it does wonders. With a long flight like NY to HI, you might need to take it again when they are starting to descend (you'll know because your ears will start to feel clogged).
You can buy non-drowsy medicine if you'd prefer to stay awake or get the regular "may cause marked drowsiness" if you want help sleeping. Basically, if it doesn't say "non-drowsy" it should cause you to get sleepy (but different people are affected different ways by sinus meds).
Just to give you an idea of what it might be like if your ears don't adjust to the pressure change - it's really annoying (even a little painful) and you can't hear very well. Your head feels "cloudy" and all you really want is for your ears to go back to normal. It might even cause dizziness since your equilibrium is controlled by your ears.
It once took me 2 or 3 days to get my ears back to normal. Doctors will tell you NOT to hold your nose and blow because it can cause issues, but sometimes that's the only way to fix it. Just be careful not to do it too hard!! I once almost passed out from doing it. Not good.
Of course, you won't know if you have sinus issues unless you don't take the medication and have a hard time getting your ears to "pop" with the gum, so it's up to you to take it or not on the way there. I mostly mention this in case you do experience trouble on your way there so you know there's a remedy on your way back and for anyone who has ever had trouble with their ears while flying.
Have fun!

nice english.
its not bad just stay up the whole night before so u can sleep the whole flight. ive flown to hawaii many times and its not that bad. some ppl need dramamine (sp?) for motion sickness so u might want to think about that if u get sick on boats or roller coasters and things like that |

Air Travel is REALLY crazy this year..this is what you NEED to know..
- Get a bright color bag that no one else has or get one with a crazy print or something. This way it'll be VERY easy to locate.
- Get there early. It takes FOREVER so if you there late.. you might miss you plane.. you'll have nothing to worry about if you arive there 3 or 2 and half and hour before. Or maybe even more depending on your aip port..
- GET GUM. Your ears will pop when you take off. It happens to me every time but it sure ain't happin' this year ' cause i'm going to South Dokata and i'm driving! @_@
Well, thats all i can really think of..
( P.S I'm not very sure on the times for getting there earlier.. i go with my family on trips and i am never quite sure what time we get there so the time may not be exact.. but still arrive VERY VERY VERY early. )

Yes, I've spent so much of my life on planes, as I travel and move a lot. Riding on a plane is a very exciting adventure! It can often be scary at times, as well. First thing to know: riding on an airplane has proven to be the safest way to travel. Yes, there have been few accidents, however it is HIGHLY unlikely that you will experience an accident. Next, most planes take off a few minutes late. The time they give you is just an estimate, but they usually are a tad bit late on their departure. That doesn't mean arrive late! You don't want to miss your plane! When you take off and land, you may feel a small clicking in your ears. This is just from the change in air pressure, so do not fear! They should be back to normal in no time. While on the plane, your legs may feel cramped sitting down so much (especially on a long flight like Hawaii), so if the 'Buckle Your Seatbelt' sign isn't lit up, I advise you to take a small walk about the cabin. A trip to the bathroom is always nice. If the light is illuminated, stay in your seat! It would be dangerous for you not to! Also, pack a few snacks and magazines, or something to do. I get very hungry on board, and often the food they serve (sometimes it's only peanuts) does not fulfill my hungry appetite. Other than that, I think you'll be fine! Have safe travels! |

The first time i rode in a plane I was alone, and I was like.. 18.. lol.. If you don't like rollercoasters, taking off and landing might bother you.. I thought it was awesome.. I was actually sitting in my seat by myself smiling, lol..
Theres really not much to know about planes.. if you dont' like heights, don't look out the window.. if the plane is a bit bumpy, it's only turbulence, and it's perfectly normal. other than that it will be a pretty ordinary experience.. |

take snacks airplane food is horrible, dont worry if its bumpy its just air pockets, its safer to fly than drive, and if you are very nervous take a xanax to relax or an ambien to help you sleep, bring a book and pillow blanket if its an overnight flight
have fun! |

Yes, many times and I just love to fly.
For first time fliers, like many here said, it's good to request a window seat so you can see the scenery below or the puffy lovely clouds....so beautiful. All the advice these folks give about chewing gum and so forth are great suggestions. They usually have a good movie on....sit and enjoy. Occasionally, you might want to get up and walk in the aisles when they say you can unbuckle the seatbelts because sitting too long on a long flight might make your legs feel stiff. You are travelling such a long distance, you probably have to switch planes. That's when you also get to "stretch" some: give the legs a little exercise. It is something exciting to be looking forward to and Hawaii is beautiful! |

I've been on 130-150 flights and it's all easy, if you can choose your seat beforehand then choose a seat just infront of the wings for the smoothest flight.
The main thing is to make sure you don't leave your passport on the plane.
Decide where you're gonna keep it and keep it there, eg in your back pocket (as long as it's tight) or in your purse.
They give you boarding passes when you first check in at the departure airport, along with your passport/id card back - these are easily lost / dropped so make sure that you keep your boarding card and your passport together and safe.
Try and take a dump at the airport before you fly, it's better than suddenly getting the urge on the plane. Urinating on a plane is fine, crapping is another thing entirely. Watch what you eat the day before you fly - no chilli burritos etc.
PS - DON'T get a window seat - get an aisle seat - this gives you more "lean out" space and it also means you don't have to clamber all over someone or get them to move if you want to use the toilet / stretch your legs.
Also buy some tangy chewy sweets to help you swallow lots, this will help your ears pop. (it's a pressure thing) |

Bring some gum to chew on so your ears don't get plugged. Also, bring a laptop and movies if you have one, if not, bring magazines and an ipod is always good. Oh yeah and request any seat except the middle (they SUCK!) have fun in Hawaii and have a safe flight! |

Yes, I did. I love airplanes! Just be cool about it, sit back, relax and just savor the trip! The view's so nice up there. It's your first time, right? Don't forget to bring some gum or candies so your ears won't hurt. You can also bring with you something to pass time. |

When you fly on a long trip, make sure that you get up and walk around as much as you can. It is very unhealthy to sit in your seat for the whole trip. Hand held games are fun to have, also books or magazines in your carry on. I travel quite often to Europe and those tips make the trip more enjoyable. Don't forget WATER!!!!!!! Bon Voyage |

I remember my first plane - I was quite anxious but that's expected of most individuals. No worries - just focus on your destination and relax on the plane. If you get car sick or sea sick, then you may also experience motion sickness on the plane. If so, bring your usual remedies with you.
It's a long ride from NC to HI, so get up when the fastened seatbelt sign is not on, and walk a little to stretch your legs. Also keep hydrated on the plane, you get soda and water free from the flight attendants. Most domestic flights do not serve complimentary meals any more, so either pack your own snack or you may buy on the plane.
Due to security measures, you cannot bring your own water on board. So read up on this and other air safety and security checks on the TSA website:
http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/index.shtm
have a great trip! |

Turbulence can make it a good ride or a frightening ride. If you experience turbulence, the plane will lurch up and down and shudder - It can feel scary, but its normal.
Before you take off, you feel the engines rev real hard, a sudden burst of acceleration and then your off! Your ears "pop" a lot until you reach your cruising altitude, bring some "starbursts candy" with you - it helps! Most of the flight will be boring as sin! Your ears will pop again when you land.
Since my ears bother me a lot on planes, I take a decongestant before leaving. It takes a huge amount of pressure off and allows me to sleep instead of being bored to death.
I've flown from NY to Hawaii - Its long, its boring. They serve some food, some drinks, and play a movie or two. |

Flying in planes is probably one of the coolest experience you'll ever have. Firstly, you should know that there really isn't anything to worry about when flying. The more you worry, the tougher the ride gets, and you cant really enjoy it.
I'm only 16 years old, and I've been on probably at least 10 plane rides: going back and forth to my country (Bangladesh) to America. I've even been to Australia and trust me, riding in plane's never get boring.
Hopefully you get a seat near the window because that's probably the most you can get out of the ride. It gives you more privacy, but more importantly, you can enjoy the view before landing or right after take off (because that's when you can actually see the cities down below, or else during mid air its usually just clouds--which is beautiful too!)
Now comes the question of what to do in a plane? Well, since you're going to Hawaii, its going to be a pretty long trip. I suggest bringing something, but they show movies on the plane. Also, its really quiet in the plane actually, so don't worry about noise. So far, all the times that i've been on the plane, the crew members were extremely nice. I've never encountered a rough crew person, so I'm sure you wont either!
There really isn't much for you to know, so I say, since this is your first time, just enjoy it. Like I've said, a plane ride is an unique experience that you'll enjoy in your life time. |

Some people freak out while flying. But I never have, nor have I ever been on a plane with someone who was too scared to fly. I think it's fun. I love seeing the states from the sky. However, you're going to be very bored going all the way from the east coast to Hawaii. Bring something to read. Bring some food (most airlines charge for peanuts and other snacks these days). Bring a change of clothes on the offchance that your luggage gets lost (mine never has, personally). Your ears will pop when you get up high. If you need to help them adjust, yawn a lot, or bring some gum to chew. Have fun in Hawaii!!! |

i love flying. it's gonna be about a ten hour flight for you so i'd definetly bring something to do. a book, a few magazines, a portable DVD player and DVDs if you have it would be good. i would also bring your own food if you can because they don't feed you. you can always spend like 10 bucks on a snack basket with like six things in it if you're desperate. i would try to eat right before you take off so you don't have to be as hungry later. they do play movies on the plane but you might not like them so bring your own if you can. plus, you need headphones so you can hear the movie and the complementary radio stations that are on the plane too. Just so you know, cell phones aren't allowed to be turned on in the plane because it screws up the signals that they need in order to contact the towers and such. just bring lots to do, a pillow unless you don't mind using theirs, and wear comfortable clothes. you'll be in there for awhile. have a safe and fun first flying experience! hope this helps! |
