Help! Fear of flying?

I have to go on a plane flight tommorow and I really don't like flying. The flight is only 2 hours long and I guess I'm aright once I'm in the air but I am still really, really nervous. Plus it's going to be rainy tommorow which is freaking me out even more. Can anyone suggest anyways to help me with this?
Thanks

doing it a lot will help.... there isn't much to help you relax... if you don't like it... you don't like it.... i'd tell you to sleeping pills, but your flight is too short.... read a book, watch a movie on your ipod if you have one... i don't know i used to hate flying too, but i do it so much that i'm sorta over it... and my flights are usually about 26 hours.... so a 2 hour flight would be very much welcomed for me.... but think about it... you will spend about 30 minutes getting to actual altitude and then a 30 decending... so you really only have an hour and half in the air to like do nothing.

Are you going by yourself? If you aren't just keep up conversation with whomever you are flying with. If you
are then take a good book, magazine, or puzzle or
anything that will keep your mind occupied and before
you know it your trip will be over.

There are several meditation techniques that you can try, but on short notice you might not be comfortable with them fast enough for them to help. So here is an easy one that my acting coach gave for people who have stage fright:
Close your eyes, and silently, in your mind, count backwards from 25 down to zero, but in between each number you think a different color, without repeating, and without saying them in a specific order. It would sound something like this in your head:
25
white
24
green
23
black
22
red
21
brown
20
pink
19
orange

You get the drift. Don't repeat any color names (but you can say different names for the same color, like for white: ecru, eggshell, snow white, off white, sand white, indian white, etc) If you can easily get to zero, then start again with a higher number. You can also change it from colors, to say names of berries, or names of video games, or ways to cook eggs, etc. you need to pick a high enough starting number that from 10 to zero it is a little bit of a struggle to remember what you have chosen already, and to come up with items.

Also, I recommend getting a seat as close to the bulk-head wall as possible. This is because the farther back you are the more you can see the motion of the plane, and that freaks people out sometimes. If you are up close to the bulk head wall you can imagine yourself to be driving in a car. The motions are similar most of the time.

Remember: the noises are normal.... the dropping sensation in normal... the leaning is normal... bouncing is normal. If you sit next to someone you do not know, ask them if they have flown alot. If they say YES, then ask them to tell you if anything unusual is happening. If they say they will then you know you can ignore any sensations you have, unless they say something to you, or until they look scared. But try to be nice, and not ask them questions every 5 mins. Let them have their peace:) They are a captive audience:)

I used to be really afraid of flying. But after about 20 times it didn't scare me any more. Now I am totally fine flying:) Good luck with your nerves. Your flight will be fine, and the rain won't effect anything:)

do like Mr T does on the a-team and get something to knock you out during the flight

rather than fear, enjoy your flight......its good up there

I also swore I would NEVER get on a plane. But when my child needed me, I managed. Don't drink anything before you get on, you don't want to get up to have to go to the bathroom once you are on the plane. And yes, taking off is kind of harsh, I would close your eyes, there is something disconcerting about the front of the plane going up. But LANDING is WONDERFUL!!! Chew gum, take a book, take some candy, play a video game. It is disorienting to be in the air, but it really isn't so bad once you are there. My flight was about 2 hours, and we had lots of turbulence. Just remember, if you had to drive all that way....it would take FOREVER. And remember all the things that you will get to do with the time you are saving. I hope you have a wonderful flight:)

Ah, rain. Rain is noting to fly in, maybe a little turbulence here and there, but turbulence is just like a bumpy road when your driving a car. There is nothing to worry about. You will be fine. Remember, flying is the safest way to travel. You put your self more at risk walking or driving down the street.
Remember to look out your window as you take off, and you will start to see the ground get smaller and smaller, farther and farther away, as you climb high in the sky... Takeoff is one of the best parts of flying. You feel some Gs pulling you back, not much, but takeoffs are fun. You'll love it... Have fun!!!

yup, if you think your going to get so worked up that you won't even get on the plane, see if your doctor will prescribe a short term one time only anti-anxiety med like zanac.

you said your fine once you get on the plane. so the more you confront your fear, the easier it will be next time.

you'll be fine, bring an ipod or whatever it is and listen to some tunes, something to get your thoughts away from it.

You need to get completely wrecked before you fly...just try and act sober when you board...or go to the doctor and get some valium. I don't really know why you're bothered about the rain though??

Distract yourself. Shortly after takeoff jump out of your seat and run towards the flight deck waving your arms and screaming loudly. You won't be worried about flying after trying this technique.

Nothing bad would happen if you just believe that God is with you and He will never abandon you at the time of desperation.
