Be sure to tell his pediatrician your are flying. A lot of times little kids get ear aches on planes. It is very painful. He may need something like benadryl.
I would take something that is comforting to him, like a blanky or stuffed animal. Be sure to pack plenty of snacks for him. I'm not sure if they allow you to pack drinks. I would call the airline and ask if they allow drinks for children.
Sometimes they don't allow you to operate electronic devices while you are in the air. I would also call and ask about a portable DVD player.
I would take a variety of items, because of the short attention span at that age. Little books with lots of pictures. Have him explain things in the books to you. Let him pretend to read to you.
here are some great ideas http://www.flyingrugrats.com/on_the_plane/op_topic10.htm |

Take him to the video store and buy new movies! That should keep him occupied! |

We flew when our son was 2, and he did really well. The layover definitely helped - we had him run around a bit and burn some energy, and he actually slept a good part of the next flight.
We packed his own carry-on backpack with these things:
*portable DVD player and NEW movies
*new books
*new coloring and sticker books
*new toys (that don't make noise)
*favorite snacks
*cup for water or juice
I kept a few of these things in my own bags for the return trip, but most of the toys from the first trip were still new enough that they entertained him on the way home.
Some people suggest Benadryl, and some peds even say that's fine to do. But test it out beforehand, because many children are made hyper by Benadryl and that's the last thing you need on a plane! |

i'd say to bring a backpack of toys and snacks, bring some new toys that he hasnt seen before so he'll want to play with when he sees them.
also, if there isnt many people on the flight id say to let him walk up and down the aile to tire him out some. |
