I assume that you and your children are UK citizens then :-
Given that Gatwick and Belfast are both in the UK then you don't need a passport at all, therefore neither do your children. You will probably be asked for some sort of identity though given the current security situation.
Although not a requirement I suggest you have your passport with you and maybe some sort of identity for the children just to show they are yours.

Yes they do. If you go to get your passports it takes about 6 weeks to get them. |

Yes they do, I'm sorry to say but the price has went up ...yet again... £45.00 and £80.00 if you go to the passport office.(if you need to fast track a passport in an emergency,funeral etc the extra fee will be refunded with proof of necessary travel)Even on domestic flights you must have photo I.D.You don't need ID for the ferry, I don't know if there is a route from the south of England, it may be worth looking into. |

If you are British or Irish citizens, technically, you shouldn't have to. London and Belfast are in the same country (the U.K.) It's critical that you contact the airline because they are who decides who gets on board. Ask them what forms of indentity are accepted for "national" flights.

Do you have national identity cards for them? These are handy for travel. I have French ones for myself and the children. They were free and much faster than the passports.
