Sorry for your sadness and that you can't go. An airline ticket is a contract between the airline and you. The travel agency dispenses and/or sells these tickets. They represent the airlines in this transaction. Getting a refund depends on the type of ticket you purchased. If you purchased a discounted airline ticket it may be non-refundable or have a cancellation penalty. This should be indicated on your ticket by a ticket code or the words non-refundable. However if you can't go because an immediate family member passed, the airline and/or travel agency may be able to work out something with you so you may use that ticket at another time. Tickets are usually valid for 1 year from issuance. Check with your airline as well as your travel agent. Good luck to you! |

I suspect this will depend on why you can't go and will be an issue between the airline you and hopefully your insurance company. I do hope you insured! If you have insured and want more detailed advice, send me an email telling me why you cannot travel and I will be in a better position to tell you whether you are likely to get your money back. |

Call the airline. Explain to them your situation. Most likely they will only give you a credit in that amount to fly in the future. But if they do give you a full refund, which is rare, then they will charge you a cancellation fee. The airline I work for would charge you about $50, but we wouldn't readily refund your fare unless the flight had been cancelled. |

It depends on how restricted your ticket is... If its a very flexible fare and the fare rules states that BEFORE DEPARTURE: CANCELLATION PERMITTED, Then you will get a refund on the whole value of your ticket.. But If it says that for cancellation, there is a 200USD fee then the airline will give your money back less the 200 USD.. BUT if the Rule of the fare states that for cancellations the fare is non refundable before or after departure then you will not get your money back... The best thing to do is to call the airline and ask for options... like if ever ITS NON REFUNDABLE, can you just cancel it now and use it in the future ( be sure to get your ticket numbers)... Or if you have a valid reason why you cant fly out, say you are sick, ask the airline if the fare that you paid has a medical waiver for cancellations before/after departure... |

Only if it is a refundable ticket- otherwise you can make changes for $$ amount and use it another time. Having trip/travel insurance is worth the cost. |

I would imagine that if you went through a travel agent that a small portion of the ticket will not be refundable. Whether or not the bulk of it is refundable will depend on what type of fare it is. Many are non-refundable, but will give you a voucher for the ticket amount so you can use the money at a later date on a ticket from their airline. |

the only way you would be able to get a refund is if the ticket allowes it. There are certain types of tickets, you will have to look. |
