usually it is one personal bag (like a purse, backpack, something small) and one carryon bag that can fit under the seat in front of you or the overhead storage. if you check at your airline's website they should express the dimensions of a carryon bag. perhaps a bigger concern are all the restrictions on what you cant bring.

I tried to board with about 30 pounds of magazines in a bag and they stopped me. I think they fear the overhead bins will break.

You are allowed one carry-on. This should not weigh more than 50 pounds, or you will have to pay an additional amount which is usually 25 dollars, for the overage. Your bag should be able to fit in the overhead rack or under the seat in front of you. Anything larger that this will have to be checked.

It somtimes varies from carrier to carrier, but usaly around 50 pounds. Anything over they make you take out and place in your carry on.

I think usually the limit is 40 in the carry-on plus the purse/backpack. However your bag usually usn't handled by anyone besides you, so who's going to weight it? Remember you have to be able to lift it into the overhead yourself. I really don't think you would be able to go over 40 lbs with a carry-on unless you are packing lead bricks or something anyway.

In American Airlines, as long as it fits in the overhead compartment or underneath the seat in front of you, you're ok, well as for the weight...are you trying to transport an engine block?

domestic flights you can check two 40 pounders, carry on it has to fit under the seat don't matter how heavy it is

If you mean a carry-on bag, i don't think their is a limit, BUT it will have to fit in the top closet thing above the seats. If you go to the airline websites it will tell you evevrything you need to know.

The maximum weight limit for most US domestic airlines is 40lb. BUT we aren't standing at the boarding door with a scale. IF something looks over weight, we can ask it be weighed first. Would you want to try and lift 40lb 2 feet over your head or have it fall on you?? Contrary to what others have said, there IS a weight limit, again, not necessarily checked or enforced, but we can require something to be weighed before you board if it looks too heavy.

Check in baggage is free when under 50 lbs. If over 50lbs they may ask you to remove something to get the weight down. If not, then it costs between $25-$50 fee (depending on airline). I used to fly with lab equipment for my job all the time and the case weighed 62 lbs. Sometimes they would "let it go" cuz they (the check in person) did not want to do the paperwork involved to charge me the fee...and other times they did. Also, I believe stored items cannot be more than 30lbs (suitcase/laptop/small bag) in the overheads on the plane. Hope this helps :)
