Pain during landing? Maybe you should change to a legacy carrier. |

I know what pain you're on about, I get the most horrific pain in my ears, its almost unbearably painful. Generally no normal trick for stopping your ears popping helps and will probably make it worse.
One trick I use though that does seem to make it better is putting foam ear plugs in before you start to land, it seems to slow down the rate at which the pressure affects your ears (or whatever causes it) and its not nearly as painful. |

There are several types of pain, I don't know exactly what type you are experiencing. The normal one, where the pressure increase causes discomfort is easily solved by swallowing and exercising your jaws.
The pain where your head seems to explode isn't easy to solve. I experience this maybe 1 of 100 flights but it's nasty. I have no definite solution other than trying to relax and wait for the pain to ease. usually this is not more than 5 minutes. |

Try chewing gum, or something that you can chew on. Also, try to yawn a lot. |

As above answerers said you can try yawning, chewing gum or swallow with your mouth open (that works best for me).
It is common to feel discomfort during take off and (esspecially) during landing but if you are feeling pain it may be because you are having a congestion problem in your eustachian tube.
Your ears will have a harder time equalizing the low pressure that's inside them with the outside pressure. Try using a nasal spray like Sudafed, 20 minutes before landing. This will unblock your system.
If the problem persists try this trick an air hostess taught me. Ok don't laugh, I know it will sound ridiculous but it works.
Wet 2 paper towels with hot water and put them on the bottoms of 2 paper cups. Hold your cups over your ears. After 2-3 minutes you should feel comforted. |

Wear earplugs during all the flight.
suck on candy during landing. Some pilots drop gradually but some drop faster depending on thier routes... that will definetly hurt ears. |

omg i ttly feel ur pain!!
well, for me, i kinda "know" when the pain is gonna come, b/c it only comes like, a little [5-15 min] b4 landing for me, so i try all the yawning and gum and stuff BEFORE it gets to the point where my ears hurt, b/c i find that once the pain is there, it is just SOOOO much harder to make it go away, and less likely that it's gonna go away.
also, for the gum, try using BUBBLE gum. not chewing gum. i would suggest dubble bubble or something like that. but DEFINITELY avoid chewing gum [like Extra, Winterfresh, Wrigley's...]; it won't help, and it'll waste about a buck out of ur wallet/purse [or more, depending on how much u buy] {unless ur just chewing it just cuz u like to chew it, like me xD}
but fyi, ur jaw MAY get tired after a while, so don't start chewing too early; for me, i usually go no more than 17 minutes before landing.
also, another thing for YAWNING, it looks kinda stupid, but if u just keep ur mouth open, you'll usually yawn. or at least that's true for me and my siblings.
Hope it helps =] |

Yawn or suck on something. Least you don't get pain in your eyes, mine hurt as hell when the plane lands! |

Chew gum. It works you jaws which helps the pain. Yawning helps even better if you can control it. If not, just try not to go to sleep, then you'll yawn when you're landing. |
