I used to use the bathroom scales and had a heck of time trying to read them. Because I travel quite frequently and always pack far too much, I bought one of these -

Get on your bathroom scales with it and then without it and work out the difference - easy!

stand on bathroom scales (ALONE) and record weight. Pick up luggage and (whilst carrying it) stand on scales again. Record weight. Subtract first recorded weight from second recorded weight - difference will be weight of luggage.

Use bathroom scales, if the bags too big put a board of wood on it first. Record the weight of the wood and subtract it from the total weight with bags included.

Well you should pack you're bag. Then put it on weighing scales in your house. You need to check with the Airline you are flying with how heavy your luggage can be. Look on their website or phone customer services.

I really did use my bathroom scales before I flew to Germany in March. It worked I was pretty close only a couple of pounds off. If your not sure take someone with you when you check in your luggage so you can unload and send it home wit them! If you are flying out of the country you are allowed 2 bags per person. But keep in mind if you buy anything that is extra weight on the way home too! If you are traveling with someone else pack some of your stuff in their bag if they are light packers.
