Just close your eyes and imagine you're in a car.

I sympathise with you. I am not a nervous flier but I cannot sleep on planes no matter what I do..... the only time I ever slept I had nightmares! However I would recommend ear plugs and something to cover your eyes. If it is quieter and dark then I find it easier to doze.
When my mum flies she takes diazepan, but only half a tablet. It calms her down and makes her a little dozy, she is terrified of flying and she suffers from restless leg syndrome as well.
I would recommend visiting your doctor and getting some good advice from them. Please don't drink lots of alcohol as some have suggested. This might help you sleep but you will feel terrible when you wake up. The air in the cabin will dehydrate you enough without the alcohol doing it as well.
We managed to get seats right at the back, they were by the toilets but they reclined back further than most and we got some good rest on them.
I think that I don't sleep because I worry about snoring (hysterical when someone else nearby is doing it loudly - I get the giggles so badly) and looking an ejit with my mouth open!
Please don't stress too much, the worst thing is the boredom. Flying is statistically the safest way to travel. |

I'm just the same. Go to your GP and explain how you feel, he should prescribe you something to help you relax. |

Its very dangerous to take too many sleeping pills, if you need to be awake and alert for any reason at all, you dont want to be drowsy in an emergency situation, but chances of that are very slim. ask your dr for a sleeping pill with a 1 or 2 hour active life, so that you are very relaxed and calm enough to fall asleep and also listen to some music and read a book or play a game or something to keep your mind busy. these are tips that i got from a commercial pilot! |

Take 3 or 3 sleeping pills before you board your flight. It will start taking effect not too long after your takeoff. Their are over the counter sleep aids, that will help you relax. |

The first thing to do is relax. Make yourself comfortable in your seat - on this sort of long-haul flight you will most likely get a pillow, blanket, some kind of eye-mask and maybe even some earplugs (although I'm not aware if all airlines do this).
The second thing is to take distractions. A good book is a classic. A great aid is also an mp3 player of some kind (although yes, mp3s can only be used once you've reached cruising altitude) and put on some relaxing music, your favourite songs or whatever just makes you feel good.
Combine the book and the music and you'll find yourself sleepy in no time. The eye-mask is good for when you just want to listen to your music and shut your eyes, and if you're finally ready to drift off switch the music for the aforementioned earplugs (if there are any) and sleep.
I hope this was helpful! |

You're not gonna see the flight crew lookin nervous because they fly more than anybody in this earth. Another thing is that if you really wanna knock yourself out.. There's booze that they sell in the airports and inflight. Jes drink yourself to sleep. That's the best way for you to get some shut eye.
I don't believe in drugs coz they're bad for you. Booze is made from natural stuff,,, so please drink away. Besides, you being in an airplane for at least 2 hours will put you to sleep anyways. Best way is to booze yourself up, then use eye covers. It does the trick all the time. |

See your gp. Hope he will give you something to help you sleep, or at least take the edge off your anxiety.
Chemists sell Nytol which helps people sleep, but try one before your journey to check the effect.
Look at birds (the feathered kind). They make it look so easy and effortless! Have a great trip. |

My Daughter was petrified when she had to fly and due to her new job it meant frequent flying. She went to a hypnotist, had 2 sessions and she is fine now even when she goes to Hong Hong or the States. |
