You won't. They're good enough to detect it. Save yourself the hassle.

you don't have to sneak it through. It's been almost a year since lighters were allowed on planes. Just put it in the bin and it will go through xray.

Save yourself the hassle and just buy a cheapie disposable lighter when you get to your destination. Messin' with TSA ain't worth the trouble.

You won't have to sneak it through. You are allowed to take lighters. Just put it on the conveyor belt with your other stuf that goes through the xray machine.

Buy it when you get to your destination.
You can't smoke on the flight anyway, and if you were to try to smoke in the bathroom, there are smoke detectors in them to let the staff know, and you will have far more trouble than a smoke is worth.
If TSA catches it, they'll confiscate it, and subject you to an extra search.

one of my friends got an authentic-looking replica metal gun through one of these sytems by turning it sideways so the detector just saw a rectangle of metal. This may or may not work, depending on how scrupulous the people at the gate are.
