Don't carry it on your person or put it in your hand baggage - Why would you even want to do that? Don't do anything stupid and/or illegal.
Read the rules posted on the TSA site carefully! Remember:
"If you bring a prohibited item to the checkpoint you may be criminally and/or civilly prosecuted or at the least asked to rid yourself of the item. A screener and/or Law Enforcement Officer will make this determination depending on what the item is and the circumstances. Take it out of your bag and present it to the officer. Say, "I have a Swiss Army Knife in my bag, can I take it with me?"

Depends which country you are going into, and how big the knife is, but I've taken mine on holiday by packing it in my hold luggage. So long as you can't access it on the plane, the air company will be fine, and so long as the country of destination does not have any laws prohibiting the possession of the knife, they should be ok.
Alternatively, buy one in the country you are going to...
