Well you can prepare her, by making her excited about it. U know, tell her good things about it like we can see everything from above, tiny houses, we can see the clouds below us or right next to us. We get to see inflight movie, or listen to songs. We get some good things to eat. U know, make her excited so she looks foward to it. THen when the time comes, maybe her excitment would drown the loud noise, and the air sickness that can happen. I hope this helps. take care

communication is the key. Let her know what she'll be expecting from the time you set foot in the airport to the airplane. Explain why she needs to go on an airplane and what she'll be able to see from high above. Make sure you bring games, coloring books and educational books so she won't get bored. good luck!

Hi! I've been working in the airline industry for almost a decade now so listen up:

- Make sure she has her own backpack/carry on bag. It makes them feel 'grown up'.

- Bring your own snacks for her (watch the TSA liquid restrictions)

- Bring toys, puzzles, paper, coloring book, crayons and other things that will keep her occupied.

- If she has a safety blanket or teddy bear be sure to bring that on the flight and not in the checked luggage!

- Talk to her often and let her see (if possible) out the window. Explain to her what's going on.

- If there's any turbulence for God's sake please don't look concerned or alarmed because kids can pick that up right away. If you're calm, they'll most likely follow your lead.

- Have fun! If it's her first flight, we want to make sure that it's enjoyable for everyone!!

I hope this helped a little. Have a great trip and take lots of pictures!! Not only when you get to your destination but as she's boarding the plane too. If you want, you can even ask the flight attendants to pose with her for her 'very-first-airplane-ride' memento!

Have a safe flight and thank you for flying the friendly skies...

Children aren't like adults. We've watched the news too much and too many tragic movies. We have fear of what can happen. Children are excited to be on a plane and go on vacation. Bring her some entertainment so she doesn't get bored. Be careful that your actions don't make her afraid.

although my son is only two, we thought he'd still realize the frightening aspects of a plane ride, so we started showing him pictures and got him a book so he'd understand everything going on. at the airport, we kept things light and fun, trying not to be too tense and cause him to get nervous.

once on the plane, he was okay. we brought lots of things to entertain him. snacks, drinks, his blanket, and bear. i'd suggest letting your daughter sit in the window seat, not only will it help excite her instead of scare her, it reduces stomach upset. i'd also suggest keeping sugarless chewing gum and drinks with a straw for her because chewing or sucking from a straw will help to make sure her ears don't pop at take-off and landing.

Visit an airport to watch the planes. See if you can get dome children's books about plane travel from your local library. Make it a big adventure so she is excited rather than scared. Tell her how much you love flying (as long as that is not a lie as kids can detect lies which will make them more nervous not less). Make sure you have sweets, juice etc for the flight (check current regulations for hand luggage). Have a game that she can play on her lap such as a colouring book or small favourite soft toy.

I hope these ideas help.

I know there is alot of controversy around this but I still belive in it. Give the child benedryl! It will help her relax so that she can just sleep durring the flight. This will save her, you, and every other passenger alot of stress. Benedryl is safe and mild enough that it won't cause any problems. Also I would be sure to have something to occupy her time in the terminal. Though some airports are starting to have childrens areas with jungle gyms and stuff but most still don't. I know that druging your child sounds awful, but it makes everything easier on everyone and causes no harm.
