They actually don't use their eyes!!!! They have technology which directs them in the right direction, gives them flight standards, etc.....that's why you're not supposed to use electronic devices and cell phone while you're in flight, it can disrupt the flow of the machines.

They fly using their instruments. Most commercial planes today are pretty much automatic as it is. If the rain is bad, they try to fly under the rain. If the rain is still bad, they divert to the nearest airport until the skies clear up.

If you want to see the cockpit and (half) of the instrument panel of an A320 go here: http://flickr.com/photos/jamie_hassen/sets/72157594552581082/

they fly by instruments. they do this most of the time, they don't fly by sight like we drive a car.

Unlike drivers, pilots don't rely on their sight from the windshield to fly. To take off and land they rely on a system of lights, easily seen in any weather. With the help of wipers, they can see those.

Other than that, the plane is filled with complicated dials and screens that tell pilots where they are headed.

I did some checking and it seems they have windshields on the front of them danged airplanes.

Instruments and also GPS.

It's tough - if you're flying, you don't need to see, but on take off and landing and taxiing, it's a pain in the aass.

they are above the clouds... when they come down for landing... im not possitive.. probably the best wipers man has ever made.

ouachita
Windshield wipers!

enzo32ferrari
Thats why flights are cancelled because of rain. They pilot usually by instruments from there; a compass, an altimeter are some of the others; when they get low enough, they should see the runway lights in order to make a safe landing.
