How do we speed up airport security?

I suggest three classes of lines going through security at the airport. One line for people with laptops and/or more than one carry-on bag. One line for people with only one small bag or purse and a third line for people that can carry all of their items in their pockets. What do you guys think?

It sort of works now... separate lines for elites and commoners.... fortunately, most elites know the drill. It's just too bad people who buy full 1st class also get to use the elite lines (and usually, they don't even know how to dress themselves). They need a separate line for true frequent flyers... and another for families, so they all can wait together out of our way.

Amazingly enough, I NEVER check my bags, and still manage to get through the checkpoint in under 30 seconds... if no one is in front of me.

But the best way is to eliminate completely the unnecessary crap they do just for show and don't even help (and might hurt) our security:

- Allow water/gels/liquids (I mean.... seriously).
- Don't make people take out laptops (isn't that what the freakin' X-rays are for? And yes, they can penetrate layers).
- Get rid of the worse-than-rent-a-cop workers (trained chimps would do better).
- No more shoes off (X-rays can't detect explosives, genius).
- Fire (and lynch) Kip Hawley.

Inherently, you will find that one line is consistently backed up while another is frequently empty. A single queue is the best way to go. After reaching the front of the single line queue, branch to multiple security lanes. This works with fluid dynamics too. Liquid flows faster at the narrow point (the single line queue), but can process more after (the multiple security lanes) - without regard for what the person/liquid is carrying, the mixture will find the path of least resistance.

the only way to speed it up is to:
take a slow motion picture of airport security at work, then play it back at a faster speed.

By profiling. Not all Muslims are male, or terrorists. But all terrorists of recent years have been Muslim males. Pulling aside that Asian grandmother to doublecheck her shoes is nothing but a politically correct exercise in inefficiency and stupidity.

If there is no one in that business class line and alot of times there isn't.Why not start taking a few people through that line?Keep the lines more organized there a weaving mess. Its almost not funny the things customs throws out: mascara, toothpaste, vs the things they don't see, alcohol, tobacco, etc.

Line four for me. I check everything and wear sweats and flip-flops.

umm we hire more security scanners and people show up at the airport earlier. you line thing wouldnt work it would cause more confusion by people who wouldnt understand it and what about people who have all of those

I agree but another solution is hiring more screeners.
