Actually finding the cheapest far for your Dad probably won't be because he is a senior citizen. I have worked in the travel/hospitality industry and generally senior discounts are found by using AARP, AAA or one those types of organizations. So if you or he is a member of a senior organization - they will have certain discounts available. However in my experience, those discounts usually weren't the best deal, sometimes the best deals are just by using the "on-line" reservation format. The minute you pick up a phone to make some kind of plane reservation - you've just added $35 to your ticket - all the airlines want customers to book on-line to save money.

I would try cheaptickets.com to find the cheapest fares (there is also Orbitz, etc but I have used cheaptickets for years) for the MAJOR airlines and then check out the individual sites for Southwest, Jetblue, Skybus, Spirit, A3000 and any other discount carrier in your Dad's area. Remember most of those big travel sites like Cheaptickets or Orbitz don't have contracts with many discount carriers like Southwest. Discount carriers don't use those site because they can't really share booking referrals to make a profit.

Also, I live in Florida and one thing I do when I'm looking for a cheap flight is look at the other airports in the region. I live in Miami but I always check the flights coming into Ft. Lauderdale. Hope you find a deal.

All above are good answers but remember you get what you pay for. Since you are traveling with your 90 year old dad some of the low discount airlines don't always have extra personnel to help like with electric carts or wheelchairs etc. Check all airlines and look to see if taxes are included in the price. For example the fare is $99 but you pay for passenger facility charges and the like which can ad $20 or more each way per ticket.

For me its Southwest. Keep checking their website for internet specials. I am flying from Florida to Ca. for total of $233. Also you can make any changes with no penelty fee and can cancel a flight for a full refund when you use their senior fare of $164 one way.

Why don't you check with a reputable travel agency in your town. You'd be surprised !!

Depends on where you live, if you live in heavy metro areas like NY, you have more options. If you live in small towns served only by one carrier, you're kind of out of luck.

Don't forget smaller local carriers such as:

JetBlue
Skybus
Virgin America
Spirit

Check out the article on Penny College for more saving tips.
