You can get stuff called rescue remedie from chemists that you spray on your tongue and it makes you more calm and less scared :D |

I am the same exact problem! I have a 13 hour flight coming up next week and I'm already nervous! I'm going to try and take some Nyquil or something to get me to sleep and maybe ask my doctor for some kind of anti-anxiety pills. Also have a chat to a pilot if you know one. They are really helpful!
Good luck! |

Fly more. Its how I got off of it. Dont look out the window while taking off. After the first ten minutes you should feel calmer than usual, even if you are still ascending. |

Think about it this way - you are much much more likely to be involved in a car accident than in a flying accident. Yet if you worried about that every time you stepped inside a car it would have a massive impact on your life. I understand that because there are so many more obvious issues when you are flying that it is incredibly difficult to believe in 'stats'. It's daunting because for a human it is an unnatural process - the height/ speed. But if you look past that what is the worst thing that could happen likely going to happen? Flight plans are very carefully mapped out so it is phenomenally unlikely that you would ever collide with another aircraft. That leaves it to mechanics - airplanes are checked regularly at every stop before they are deemed safe to fly again. Accidents happen very rarely. So try to put it to the back of your mind. How about if you try to sleep through it? That way you won't be able to acknowledge any worry creeping to the surface. Just tell yourself that everything will be fine; people fly everyday and nothing goes wrong. Then sit back and enjoy the duty-free ride and remember - YOUR GOING ON HOLIDAY! |

Think about what it is exactly that triggers those fears e.g. altitude, statistics of accidents or helplessness. Once you know what you're up against then you can 'program' your mind to divert to other feelings when face with those triggers. google 'overcoming phobias', it'll tell you the same thing but in different ways. |

Hmmmmm... Try chewing gum, busying yourself, and as soon as the pilot says its okay to turn on portable devices, play with your phone or whatever. I always get scared when I can turn on portable devices, so I play my DS. Maybe you need a Game boy or something. XD Or just think of it as a car ride. Don't look out the windows and busy yourself with something else. If its dark, try to sleep. See if the flight attendant can't give you any more advice. Ask a doctor, I guess. See the controls, I saw that on TV once and the guy wasn't scared when he saw how everything worked! So yeah, hope I helped! |

You could take something called dramamine which will help your stomach from dropping so much every time the plane hits turbulence. Sometimes, it will help you sleep during the flight as well so you will be fast asleep if any turbulence happens. |

well you must slowly increment your experience with flying. First observe airplanes or airports. Then move up to sitting in one. Then just ride one in the ground until you are comfortable. Then do a small flight. Then move to a larger flight. Id suggest you take small steps leading to more contact with flights. The worst thing you could do is go to a long trip without feeling completly sure you want to because that worsens your fear. |
