Try chatting with the person next to you (assuming they look normal!) & listen to music to take your mind of it.
Also, you can take herbal Kalms to 'take the egde' off.

Scary? I would say boring.
Maybe you should drink of couple of beers (assuming you are over 18). And do not sleep at least 20 hours prior to your flight so that you will be very tired and sleep all the way through the flight.

Lots of people are flying alone and often you will make friends. I met a girl when flying to Poland who later texted me trying to borrow GBP 2,500. Whether this was a reflection of the intensity of her feelings, my look of affluence or a national quirk I would hesitate to say.

I just bring a really good book and the time flies, haha literally

A couple of pints of Guinness in the departure lounge, a good book & my MP3 player, always does the trick for me.

If your really, really, really scared & your going somewhere exotic, I could always chaperon you.

if you have a decent mp3 player that u can put videos onto, try this. time goes so quickly this way.
i did this when flying recently. i watched a couple of movies on ipod, the flight was done with before i knew it, it was great.
other things to keep u occupied are good puzzle books, a good novel, magazines, a notebook or a diary...music player. you could always try something like knitting too hehe :) time consuming and productive!

I would prob just find someone at check in that was travelling alone as well & try to start a conversation

Try to focus on the movie that they'll most likely be showing and you might even want to ask your doctor for some anti-anxiety med just for the flight. I did and it helped me... ; )

Westwood
Just try not to worry about the plane being hijacked or blown up, or just generally crashing due to engine or electrical failure

Make yourself known to the cabin crew,,,they are trained to deal with nervous, passengers,,and will keep an eye on you throughout the flight,,,its not so scary,,,I'm sure you will enjoy it,,,

I travel to Japan from the USA every year. It is a long difficult journey and once there it isn't easy to get to my final destination. The time change is so radical it takes me several days to adjust.

If you don't have any trouble sleeping on a plane sleep. You will feel better when you arrive. You can help yourself by getting a window seat and bringing along your own pillow. Take along some good thick socks and take your shoes off. Drink plenty of water and no alcohol. Bring a great book, the movies often aren't so great and if there are good ones you probably have already seen them.

Well, I shall be doing just that in a couple weeks, and I am not scared of the flight, more the fact it's my first time out of the country alone-ever. What will get me through is the thought of my precious fiancee greeting me at the other end! It will be like coming home. I will be taking an MP3player to keep me in the right mood... and playing "Flying Without Wings"...! And its a good idea to team up with someone onboard or pre flight, if you can be sure what they are like!

If it's your first time flying, try talking to the person next to you. If it's your first time flying ALONE, ask for a pillow and blanket and don't forget the iPod. I was 10 the first time I had ever flown alone out of the country. I looked 13 and lied about my age. Don't worry about the airplane...That wasn't the problem. It was the airports that scared me, especially Toronto Pearson! Hope this helps! --Sid :]

Many people say the scariest part of a flight is landing and take-off, so I suggest u grab your ipod then listen to some classic music while take-off and landing
