wings + power+ aerodynamics

It is because of the wings.

Their shape creates a high pressure underneath and a low pressure on top, therefore creating lift.

It is the opposite of a spoiler on an F1 car which creates downforce.

Paul The Rock Ape
The airflow over/under the wings causes vortices; high pressure below and low pressure above. In effect, the plane is literally "sucked" into the air by these vortices.

This why, if you look out the window at the wings as you're flying along, they appear to be bowed - this is because the body wants to fall back to earth, but the combination of the structural strength of the body/wing joint and the airflow won't allow it.

The strongest structural joint of an aircraft is where the wings join the body - it has to be for obvious reasons.

Thrust, air resistance, shape of tail and the shape of the w***. The w*** also has flaps which control the aviation and air current beneath it.

basically wht rrm said because that is the truth but yeah they do need the engines but without the wings it would be very hard to

An aircraft creates its own storm beneath the wings therefore lifting it from the ground....

Hello,

(ANS) ALL Aircraft & Planes stay in the air due to the forward movement of air over the surface of their wings. Wings produce whats called Lift, lift is extremely powerful force.

The lift is the result of the way the air flows over the wings shape, air flows over the top surface of the wing's shape differently too the airflowing underneath the wing, the difference produces the lifting effect which keeps the aircraft flying.

Thrust,
Modern jet engines are an incredible invention & there power come from the flow of air into the engine intakes (fans at the front) this air is then highly compressed at incredible pressures & then mixed with aviation kerasine (special kind of petroluem fuel) and is then burnt inside the engine, the result of this combustion is "thrust".

Its really the combined with moden jet engines & thrust & modern wing design that makes todays aircaft so fantastic an acheivement (one we sadly now take too much for granted).

It's basic theory of flight. If lift is greater than the effect of Gravity, it will stay airborne.
