How early do you have to arrive at the Airport for domestic flights in the US.?

I have heard you have to arrive 3 hours early! Surely this is a joke, right? My flight is only about 1 1/2 hours long.

Would someone who has travelled domestically in the US recently confirm how early I should arrive at the airport? Thanks!
Additional Details
I am asking because of the recent security changes. I know this has made the wait longer.

90 minutes at most airports. If not checking bags 60. If you are traveling on a particularly busy day, such as just before or after a holiday, then 2 hours or more. Also allow more time at airports that are known for long security lines. Las Vegas, LAX, and Seattle are a few that come to mind.

A lot of it depends of the airport - Denver, LAX & Las Vegas are infamous for L-O-N-G lines. If you have to check on luggage, it's going to take longer. I just flew internationally and domestically - arrived about 3 hours early for the international leg & a couple of hours early for the domestic flight. It's better to be safe than sorry.

Sometimes it can vary from day to day and airport to airport - why not just phone the airport you are leaving from and ask their recomendations for arrival times before departure. They have always given me a time frame in the past.

In all reality, it is going to depend on what airport your flying out of. The one I work at if you arrive about an hour to an hour and a half early your good, and that's including if the airlines computers go down. If your flying out of somewhere like LAX or a huge airport, I'd defiantly find out from someone that's flown out of that specific airport.

Flif
90 minutes is enough time for most airports, but check the website for your airline or airport for specific information. Here are the recommended times listed on the Continental website:

Zookeeper
2 to 3 hours. Depends on if you check your bags or bring carry on. Checking is quicker now. So they say??
