Passenger planes - typically about 550mph. Corcord could go much faster, mach 2. Some military planes much faster still, mach 5. Mach is speed of sound but is not a fixed value. Speed of sound varies with air pressuure. At 35,000 feet (a typical cruising altitude for long haul), mach 1 is about 663mph.

Faster planes have to fly higher for lower air resistance & better fuel economy.

Mrs.Doyle
Equivalent groundspeed of 500 - 600 mph at cruising speed.

Commercial jets fly anywhere from 500 to 600 mph in terms of ground speed. The airspeed is usually a little more consistent, but with major winds that blow west to east, a plane can go over 650 mph in terms of groundspeed (The speed at which you are travelling across the ground instead of the speed you are travelling through air.).

An Airline pilot though always refers to the speed as "mach" as a percentage of the speed of sound. Mach 1.0 is the speed of sound. Most airliners travel at mach .7

The Concorde travelled at 1350 mph, but as we all know it is long gone.

Since I bring a portable GPS with me, and some enlightened airlines allow it above 10,000 feet, I can see where I can, and how fast we are going. It is cool to leave Las Vegas and be flying at over 600 mph because of major tailwinds.

like 550mph

Galactic_Explorer
Depends on the size of the aircraft. Boeing 747 goes at an average of about 500-600 mph. Smaller planes about 250-300 mph. Fighter planes can go really fast... an average of about 1.5 Mach (unit spelling?)

ElOsoBravo
600 mph is a good average for commercial aircraft.

wetdreamdiver
From 35 knots to Mach 10....take your pick

Dhal
depends on the plane, a commercial airplane goes about 500 MPH

I’m guess you’re wondering about commercial aircraft. They normally fly around 500-550 miles and hour. Why? Because the faster you go the more fuel you burn, they save millions by flying slower. Also, if you go much faster, say 700-750, sonic booms are created. That would be a lot of “booms” with the thousands of planes that are all in the air at once.
