I went 3 weeks ago.
Heathrow - JFK (British Airways) 7 Hours 45Minutes.
JFK - Heathrow (British Airways) 5 Hours 35 Minutes.
I Also Went In July '07.
Heathrow-JFK (Virgin Atlantic) 7 Hours 30 Minutes.
JFK - Heathrow (Virgin Atlantic) 5 Hours 25 Mintues.
It really depends on wind speed and how fast the plane is going. But genrally to get to New York It takes 7-8 hours and then back home 5.15-7 Hours.
I Reccomend Virgin Atlantic! Great Entertainment, Food, Space, Cabin Crew! Free Drinks Trough Out The Flight.
You Have So Many Films, Music, TV Progs, Games To Choose From & A Sky Map.
I Don't Reccomened BA For Flying The Plane Was Dirty, My Food Wasn't Cooked Properly & The Entertainment Was Rubbish As If Your In Ecomomy You Only Get A Few Movies And As You Go Into The Better Classes The Films Get Better. But With Virgin You Get All The Same Entertainement Through Out.

Once you flight leaves, between 7 hours 15 minutes and 8 hours depending on aircraft type and wind speed and direction.
The return trip typically takes an hour less. |

Hmmm... i think it was between 8 and 10 hours when i went to NYC, but i am a little hazy as i've been all over the US.
Its a long flight though, certainly.
Fly British Airways! Or Virgin! Not a cheap flight anyway because it is awful for long haul... |

Assuming you are not sitting on the tarmac in London waiting for your turn to take-off or circling around New York waiting for your turn to land, the flight time should be around 8 or 9 hours. |
