How long is a long haul flight?
Now that airport taxes have increased, I'm trying to work out what extra I will have to pay when I go on my pre-booked holiday.
So, what is classed as long haul?
long haul flights is only a term used for non stop flight flying 8hours or more without stopping.

Short haul is usually up to 2 hours. medium haul is 3-8 hours and long haul is anything more than 8 hours.

Anywhere outwith continental Europe would be my guess.

Long haul from London has always been regarded as a flight that takes you out of continental Europe. In terms of flying time, it is generally taken to 5 hours, as 5 hours will take you south of Greece and west of Moscow.

I would say any flight over 5 hours

i think its something over 5 hours. all my flights from UK to the US are always classified as long haul and they range in time from 7 hours up to 9. Long haul doesnt make the difference in the tax you pay, the taxes are based on what country the plane is leaving from and going to. Different countries have different costs also depends on the season you are travelling

5 hours +

Thats not really what classifies how much you pay.
Every airport charges different amounts in taxes, and depending where you are going, the more youll pay. In the US, airlines pay more for landing fees in big airports like Chicago-OHare, New York La-Guardia, and Los Angeles.
This is why airlines like Southwest and JetBlue to some degree fly to smaller airports within a city boundary (Houston Hobby vs Houston Intercontinental).
European airport taxes are rediculously high and always will be. Air fares for those countries vary drastically depending on the season and so, to answer your question, it really depends more so when you travel and where you travel instead of how long you travel.
