How many people can an airplane carry ?

Crace
Depends on the aircraft. Some Planes such as the 787 and 320 can carry up too 250 passengers, While an Embraer 145 can only hold about 25-45

A lot of these answers are incorrect.

It depends on the aircraft and airline. Many small commuter planes, often referred to as "puddle jumpers," seat about 10 to 40 people.

Regional jets can normally seat up to 90 people.

Medium range jets can carry anywhere from 100 to about 190 people.

Long range airplanes can also hold about 200.

Jumbo jets, "heavies," hold anywhere from 200 people to about 410.

The newest airhog on the market is the Airbus A380, which can seat up to 555 people.

When airlines order aircraft, they choose the interior seating configuration. For example, they can choose to sacrifice a few seats to put TV screens in the back of every seat, or insert an extra serving area or lavatory. Seats can also be arranged differently, for instance, they can put either one aisleway with 3 seats on each side or two aisleways with two seats on the end and two in the middle. You see? It's an interesting business.

Happy flying...

Depends on how many fat people get on plane.

finbear
depends on the airplane. some can only carry 2, some can carry a couple dozen, and some can carry hundreds.

beanweed5150
depends on the airplane.

It depends on the airplane itself. A commercial passenger airplane can carry hundreds. Whereas military jet fighters carry 1-2.

fade_this_rally
it depends on the airplane

A two seater can carry two.

A jumbo jet can carry several hundred.

Just depends on the size of the airplane.

Depends on it's purpose. Fighter planes start at 1, and I think the largest passenger plane today can carry up to over 520 people.

Phil
it depends on the quantity and power of the engine, and the size of the plane.

Also depends on the size of the person, and all the cargo. Center of gravity can't be too far off, or the plane will likely lose control and crash.

Thomas
One per seat..

italienne
Depends on the plane. A C-130 can carry a lot more than a Cesna.
