How many people have been ripped off by Travelocity?

If you buy a flight from Travelocity, they will take your money, plus a credit card handling fee before it is confirmed. If the flight is subsequently unavailabe, you get the fare back but not the credit card fee.

I worked for an airline and Ive seen this happen many times. This is why it is always safer to book with the airlines. I always find better deals directly with the airlines. These travel sites charge rediculous fee's, offer crazy schedules and even sell the old schedules for a month after the airlines have changed them AND they were advised. There is no recourse with the airlines when there is a problem from these sites. AND contrary to what the other poster said...it is NOT the airline. Airlines want you to book with them, and by booking travel through another avenue that is the choice you, the passenger make. I have always found better deals with the airlines. You have to do your research, know what airlines service what airports. Some discount carriers like Southwest or Jet Blue do not use these travel sites because they feel their fares are cheap enough. Oddly enough, I have found better deals with the major carriers in most situations.

This is a prime example of why you should READ ALL OF THE FARE RULES before opting to purchase on any travel website. The ones I DO NOT recommend are the bulk consolidator sites like Priceline, Cheap Tickets, Hotwire, Lowestfare...any of the auction websites....anything that shows you price before your choices. These will lock you into your purchase and you can not for any reason make changes and the airlines will not touch these tickets. Orbitz is owned by the airlines, start there. See who has the better deal then go to their website. You will save money by booking with the airline because even Orbitz marks the fares up slightly for their booking fees.

Another tip is to to go the airports website that you are flying out of and see what airlines service that airport. If a low cost carrier like Jet Blue or Southwest is one, go directly to their websites to shop for prices.

If you choose to use a travel agent, find out their fee's before agreeing to any package or fares. Some agencies have a high mark up and always ask for a written breakdown of prices. See what the airfare is from the airline before the agency adds their fees. Always use a reputable agency. Even big names are headaches. Carlson Wagonlit was the worst agency that I saw amongst passengers who's company used them for corporate travel. They would have a reservation, but the ticket was not paid for when they checked in and many times these passengers missed their flights.

Im sorry you experienced this, but its more common than you'd believe.

They have the WORST customer service I have ever dealt with in my entire life. Yes in my experience they are a ripoff. In fact they are so bad, that I would actually use them as a PRIME EXAMPLE of what bad customer service really is.

Wow thanks for that knowledge. I never knew that. I haven't had problems with them yet. But my trips are to Hawaii to see my husband. His in the military so it would really suck if they didn't confirm. He only gets so many leave days. So thanks again for the info.

Use them all the time and never had a problem. It is typically the air line and not Travelocity.... They did there part. ALWAYS use US air,,,,, Delta will only book you on stand by never give you a seat. I hope this will help. Yahoo travel is good too.....

I have at least 1 or 2 clients a week come to me, saying "I usually do this on the web with ******, but the last time, we didnt have reservations at the airport...or the hotel didnt have any reservations for us...."

That is why I always say to go to a travel agent...If you book on the computer..and something goes wrong...who are you going to cuss out??? the computer???

Travel agents are in your towns and there for a reason, if something goes wrong, you have a PERSON to talk to and SEE....

If your car is tore up... do you take it to a computer?? or a mechanic??

If you have a tooth ache.. do you go to the computer??? or a dentist..
when people travel...they need to do the same thing, go to a specialist, and be guaranteed their travel...

hugh.G.rection
They double booked me on Memorial Day. I raised holy hell and ended up getting a seat in 1st class on a different airline but the supervisor from Travelocity wasn't going to refund my money or get me on another flight. He tried to put the blame on the airline.
