How much will it cost to start an airline? |
A budget airline such as Ryan Air that is mostly 747s who fly to destinations such as Orlando Florida and Las Vegas. With a reasonable number of planes to keep cash flowing. So the cost of a reasonable number of planes, fuel, how much to pay airports, staff and supplies.

It can easily run in the hundreds of millions to billions dollars. You need to consider if you will be using used 747 aircraft or if you want to buy new 747 aircraft and how many aircraft you will be flying. You can go to Boeing's website and it will tell you how much a 747 will cost. Each one is over $200 million. You will also have to negotiate landing slots at and gate space at airports. I don't know how much that will be but it will not be cheap. I think landing fees will be higher for a 747 because it is a heavier aircraft. As for pilots, flying a 747 can easily be over $200K per year. You will incur maintenance fees so either you will need your own mechanics or you will have to outsource that work. Other employees include accountants, people who see what routes you need to open and analyze how each flight is making money or losing money. You also need insurance on the aircraft as well as insurance in case an airplane crashes and the airline gets sued for passengers who die. And don't forget jet fuel. A 747 uses a lot of gas since it does run on 4 engines. You want to think about what airport you will be based out of because landing fees are different for each airport. The fees in New York for example are higher than fees in Atlanta, Georgia. |
