Yes, on most airlines he can be considered an unaccompanied minor. Go on the website of the airline you are choosing. They have the details for you. Every carrier is different. |

yes he can fly alone to visit his grandparents.
No airline will allow a child under the age of 5 to travel alone, although some will allow a child under 5 to travel with a companion as young as 12. Most airlines will not allow a child under the age of 8 to take a flight that requires changing planes to make a connection. Any child under 12 who has to make a connecting flight will be escorted by an employee of the airline. some airlines does not allow any child under the age of 12 to take connecting flights. Although children between the ages of 12 and 15 are not automatically escorted, the parent or GUARDIAN making the travel arrangements can ask the airline to assist the child
some tips maybe useful:
Once YOU have decided that your child is old enough to fly, then you have to cope with what the AIRLINES say about your child flying alone
Give your kids a phone card and teach them how to use it.
Teach them how to use an ATM card in case they need extra cash or lose the money you send with them.
After your kids board the plane, stay at the gate until the plane has taken off.
Child's photo ID and medical history.
-Cell phone for the child and your contact information.
-Picture of the person meeting the child with their name and phone number on the back.
-Some snacks. .
-Games for the flight.
Never put your kids on the last flight of the day, especially if it has a connection. |

I think he could go. Just he needs you at the airport i think...I would let the security know and ask them if he could keep a gun/knife/taser/pepper spray
just in case. |

I flew from Ft. Lauderdale to Chicago in April and sat next to the most delightful 5 year old. He said he flies a lot. (Between Mom and Dad) He was very well behaved and had lots of things to keep him occupied. |

It depends on the airline.
My son flew as a UM (unaccompanied minor) when he was 4. British Airways wouldn't take him, their lower age limit is 5. So he flew Air France, which have a lower age limit of 4.
Check with the airline.
As for your 14 year old - no problem.
Some airlines, like Easyjet, do not take UMs at all. |

Your son is definitely old enough. It depends on the airline, but I think most accept kids over the age of ten. Check the airline's website, but he'd be allowed on most.

Yes he can. He does not even need to be what is called an UNMIN or unaccompanied minor - but if he has little experience, I suggest that you arrange for him to travel unaccompanied so he will have a staff member with him at all times. Not all airlines accept UNMINS on the cheapest fares, mind and some even charge a fee for an UNMIN - but it is worth it. Further, they only take so many on each flight so it is important to book early. Teneriffe, however, has limited access for direct flights (you do not say where you live) certainly from the UK there are no direct SCHEDULED flights which means going Iberia via Madrid (that said Monarch fly from Luton scheduled, I think) - in which case you should definetly send him as an UNMIN. Charter flights do not generally accept UNMINS. And, er, forget the pepper spray unless you want him to get arrested. |
