The concept of safety is a relative thing.
Do you feel "safe" driving in a car? Car accidents kill tens of thousands every year and yet people feel secure enough to get in one every day.
Planes are statistically much safer than cars. |

you are correct qantas has a great safety record but if you look at how many flights are made in the world a day and the rate of fatal crashes it is safer than travelling in a car...i also was a concerned flyer and are sometimes nervous but if it was unsafe they wouldnt be flying.have a good trip |

Flying is safe...but Im not going to lie, thats a scary thought..dying in a plane crash. I am scared of flying too. I fly from USA to Asia all the time and it never gets easier. I would ask your doctor for a prescription of lorazepam (pills), they help you calm down if you are really scared. Just make sure you dont fly Delta because they say Delta is safe but Delta flights that are international (Delta Flights near you in Australia) are dangerous because the 2 most unsafe airlines is Korea Air and China Air and Delta flights that are international are operated by them. Here is a website that shows all the airlines and accident rates, theres alot of info on this site http://www.planecrashinfo.com/rates.htm
But flying is safe, jumbo jets have been in accidents before but it looks like Qantas one of the safest. But if you are flying to Hong Kong, you should make sure that its not a Qantas PLANE operated by China Air PILOTS. Thats what delta does. |

Everyone else will tell you that it is very safe. They're right, but I'll give you actual numbers.
Qantas flies four main types of long-haul aircraft. The 747-300 has a fatal accident rate of 2.54 accidents per one million departures. The rate for the 747-400 is 0.62 accidents per one million departures. For the 767, it is 0.30. The A330 has never had a fatal accident.
Enjoy the trip and don't worry about it. |

HI,
Quanta's is one of the worlds best airlines, and I do not now of any accidents that they have had. Commercial airlines has to undergo periodically checks every 7 day, 3 months 6 months and yearly. That is the regulations of FAA. On top of that the airlines have there own service check list that they follow. An airplane is built in the way where there are back up options for several things that can happen during a flight. Did you now that the airplanes can make an emergency landing on just one engine.
You are more likely to get in to an accident driving to work everyday, than you are on an airplane. |

I've worked in the avaiation industry for a long time both driving the bus (pilot) and as self loading cargo (passanger) and I can tell you that you are asking the wrong question. You REALLY do not want to know the answer to it, just get on the plane and enjoy the ride. As I have always joked, "why do you think the Pope always kisses the ground when he lands?" when people ask me about flying. Am I afraid to fly NOPE, do I enjoy flying YEP depending on the airline because of their seats and service |

INCREDIBLY SAFE.
You have a 100 times better chance of dying on your way to the airport then on the plane itself. |
