If his layover is over 2hrs, I suggest he go to smoking section at the airport and take as many puffs a possible.

Commit lozenges work well.

Remember that not all airports have smoking sections. He may have to go outside to puff. Then he will have to come in and go through security again, a hassle for a puff. It may be a problem depending on how long the layover is too.

Try getting his mind on something else, like watcha movie, buy headphones so he can listen to music, play cards, talk about where you are going, stuff like that. Make it fun. Aact as though you are talking to someone afraid to fly.

Mostly the addiction is eased with hand and mouth stimulation! Lots of chewing gum, lemon heads, sour candy and maybe that new commit gum/lozenge. Cant remember if it is a lozenge or gum- new on the market. Sleeping is always a deterent for smoking. I cant sleep on planes so I sit there aggitated! But if he can sleep he wont smoke!

wendy_da_goodlil_witch
nicorette gum or see if he can get a nicotine patch.

Harley L
Well as i see it he can do two things, one he can chew on that nicotine gum or he can take a sleeping tablet and sleep the whole flight - a bonus to this is he will be less jetlaged.

BoBo
The bottom line is nerves from withdrawal. You might check with your family doctor to have him prescribe a few mild tranquilizers. Unlike sleeping pills, they won't necessarily make him sleepy, but will definitely take the edge off the withdrawal. If he would like to try sleeping the time away (which is always a plus in his situation), the tranquilizers will
also contribute to that success. Good Luck. Being an ex-smoker, I recognize his apprehension.
