How to stay awake...?

I'm flying to Sri Lanka (from London, UK) and I figured out that so I can actually sleep when I get there I need to stay awake all flight. The only problem is it is over night. How can I stay awake?

i cant understand why you would torture yourself to stay awake during a long night flight, except you that snore so loudly that you dont want to embarrass yourself. if you force yourself to drink coffee you will get dehydrated which will increase jet lag . drink lots of fluids (no alcohol or carbonated) and just let nature take its course.

The more caffeine you drink, the more dehydrated you will get. The number 1 cause of jetlag is dehydration. While you may be thinking, good..I want to be tired when I get there so I can sleep..wrong! It will take you that much longer to adjust yourself to the current time in Sri Lanka. Being that it's an overnight flight, I assume your arrive in Sri Lanka during daytime. It's best to get yourself right on their schedule as soon as possible. Therefore, you would want to stay awake when you get there...until it's close to nighttime there.

Here's my suggestion. Drink a lot of coffee and get a long and interesting book. I find that when I get into a good book I don't want to put it down even if it's late at night and I have work the next day!

devrahi
play ur favorite game on air
dont eat as it would make u sulky
try pinching urself at frequent intervals
take any puzzle u havn't solved ever , or a new one
play sudoku
play crosswords
take any good joke book
take a video camera- see if u can make a funny documentry
take any work with u that u always thought of doing but couldnt do it - as u were busy
try taking ur childhood photos/videos with u - they wont let u sleep for hours
if u dont sleep while reading books ( like i do ) take one
try ur hand at Origami- take a book and make a plenty - u can also give them to pple u meet wen u reach there - PR

Years of flying experience has taught me that it is best to adjust yourself to a new time zone before you arrive by slowing moving your watch and your schedule ahead or behind to the new time before your flight. So if your new zone is six hours ahead, go to bed later and later each day for several days before the flight and get up earlier and earlier.
Adjust your meals, too, if you can.
During the flight, get up and move about the cabin as much as the flight attendants will allow. Do not wear warm clothes, as this will lull you into sleep. Being a little cold and uncomfortable with the temperature helps keep you awake. Drink coffee at a morning time in the new time zone. Take meals on the plane in the new time zone. Keep a light on--darkness also makes people sleepy. I like to hang out near the galley and do standing stretches. People are usually chatting back there and it makes it easier to stay awake.
Good luck!

Try getting a really good amount of sleep before you get on the plane so you're not as tired when you are flying. Taking some pills to keep you awake and drink lots of caffeine. Watch movies on the plane listen to music.
