I'm flying for my first time tomorrow and I'm nervous...I have braces. Am I going to set off the metal sensor?

If this does happen, should I be scared or not? What will they do to me if it does go off?

Sweetie, your braces will not set off the metal detector, make sure you listen to what they say to remove and you'll be fine.

Liz, First time hey? Well, plan on enjoying it! I love to fly.
I''ve flown alot ... and only have had a a couple of poor flights. Get a window seat if you can ... it's much more fun. Take along some gum ... it helps if the air pressure makes your ears pop. Have a few magazines or a good book in your carry on.

People with braces always get the full cavity search. Enjoy!

I set it off coming home from spring break. I forgot to take off my belt that had a lot of metal on it. They just tell you to step back and usually between the two of you you can figure out what set it off. My woman knew right away and I took off my belt and walked through it again with no problem.

But_Ugly
No, nothing to worry about. If they do, one of the people will simply scan you with a hand wand that will norrow the it down to your braces, then you will be on your way.

Even though they will, probably, notice your braces as you go throungh the metal detector, they will still have to scan you with a hand wand to make sure your not trying to use them as a way to get something else on the plane.

peanutz
The metal detector check on the density and mass. Your braces are not likely to set off the alarm. If they do, just smile at the security people. You need not worry about this at all. Just enjoy your trip.

I doubt the detectors will go off, but if they do, just show them your braces. It isn't like they are jewelry that you can remove. Enjoy your trip!

DTs ;^ )
Don't worry about it at all , Elizabeth ... You'll be fine ... And try to relax and enjoy the flight ...

;^)

Have a great flight :^)

Wear easy off shoes (Flip flops are great) and don't carry alot in your pockets. Don't wear a belt either.

Get everything out of your pockets, and give them a smile and walk on through.

If your braces set of the detector, your smile will help, and they will let you on through.

Don't wear metal jewlery either.

Good Luck, and have a great trip!

ilessthanthreeyou
no they will not. when i was younger i had braces and traveled all the time and never had a problem. and now some of my friends have them and they never go off. have fun and don't be nervous! take things that will occupy your time.

it wont go off...really....and make sure you bring gum on the plane so if your ears start to hurt (from the air pressure changes) you can chew it and it will help

you'll be fine. i was the same way and i've only flown twice, but theres nothing to worry about. it's not as scary as you think. the scariest part is the ears thing....which isnt scary at all

hope it helped.
