I'm flying with Ryan Air next week. Has anyone any advice they's like to pass on? |
Never flew before with this airline but some of my mates pull a wry face when I mention their name. Got me to thinking. |

I fly them a lot. It's not that bad.
I bring food and drink myself because it's overpriced on board and there isn't much selection.
I show up when check-in starts. They are very precise so coming very early wont help you but the window for check-in is very short.
Find out if you can check-in on line. That will save you the headache. I can't remember if it's possible with Ryan Air but it was handly on another low-cost company I recently flew.
The baggage is your biggest issue. 15 kilos is not alot. Weigh your bags and make sure you're under. It's better to take two (or more) little bags than one big bag. Since that wasn't convenient for me, I had a duffel stuffed in my bigger bag, pulled it out and presto! Two lighter bags under the weight limit...
When you buy your ticket, you have to say how much luggage you're bringing and pay for each bag. I always overestimate this because it's expensive if you show up at the airport with an extra one.
Do you think you paid for enough? Don't take the chance. Call them and add a bag over the phone. This is more expensive than buying it when you buy your ticket BUT cheaper than if you pay on the day at the airport.
If you are flying with children or if you or anyone you're flying with has mobility issues, purchase the priority boarding pass. It's sort of a rip-off but at least you'll board more easily. They don't do preboarding.
If you're with a big group, have some purchase it and hold seats for the others arriving later. I didn't do this the first time with my kids and ended up having to fight for seats to keep close to my three small children with a big group of German students. Okay, they were accomodating once they saw what was going on (one girl even apologizing) but it can be a zoo on boarding with free seating!
Be careful of your departure and arrival airports. "Frankfurt-Hahn" is ages away from Frankfurt and a friend's neighbor did show up at Frankfurt Airport only to be told he was at the wrong airport and therefore missed the flight (there was no physical way to get to Hahn in time). I've flown into "Barcelona" which is really Girona, 80km away. Stanstead is also a real long haul from London. By contrast, Rome Campino is even more central than the main airport where the long-haul flights arrive, so it depends. Know where exactly you're landing and look into how you want to get to where you want to be.
Ryan Air is safe, if a bit bare bones. Don't let that put you off. It'll get you there.
Have a good time! |

Bums on seats get in the departure queue early so you can choose your seat.
Luggage weight if you are over you pay.
The food on board is pricey so take your own if you think you will peckish.
Only done the flights to Knock or Dinard so it was ok.
If the weather on take off is pants they will cancel & refund your flight so its down to you to find your way home.
I'm flying with them again in a week. |

Well yes, they are very strict on luggage allowed, usually there is a 15kg allowance.
Once my my friends was 2kg over weight and she was charged €30! also if you are planning to bring a laptop you can only bring it or handd luggage not both as far as I'm aware (but i could stand corrected :)
Hope this helps! And they're not tooooo bad i suppose!! |

There very strick on bag luggage. Check out their guidelines on the website, i think they charge a lot if your a little over or something...I think there general reputation is for catching people out with lil fees,

I flew with them last month, apart from being half an hour late, there were no problems, it was only a short flight though. |

Rules are rules and they stick to them rigidly, don't be 2 minutes late or have 1kg extra baggage, the financial penalties are severe. |

okay, I love ryanair because they are cheap,But there is an catch.. they charge alot of fees, luggage etc.. I flew from London to Ireland for like 40 dollars US money! Was great! Just enjoy the flight, have fun! It was interesting, i was able to sit anywhere i wanted, so odd lol. And its kinda small, but it was an overall enjoyable flight, very quick too! About an hour or so.. Have fun! Be wary of the fees!!
Ciao! Hope you have an great holiday wherever your're going! Ciao!!

Think Lego brick colours and not much comfort. No seat booking so prepare to stand in line to get on board and a bun fight for seats. |
