Tylenol PM has worked great for me. or if you don't want to be too groggy should you land before you wake up - might try melatonin (sublingual) - nice relaxing effect. |

The navy gives you melatonin. It is a great sleep and it helps with jet lag. |

An antihistamine like Benadryl or another generic drug with the same active ingredients should work pretty well. Don't take more than the adult dosage, however, because it can make you drowsy for a prolonged time. |

I use to make that flight 3 to 4 times ayear I was stationed at Cherry Point and flew back and forth to the Rock when they needed me. Eat a Turkey sandwich before you get on the plane. and take a Somenex and take a boring book..
good luck Kiddo and God be with you during your trip.. |

I don't know about over the counter, but I know Ambien is a good prescription one, as long as you don't take it all the time. I took it for a short while and my pharmacist and Dr. both told me that is what they take on long flights, you can even break one in half and just take one half and it still works well. I might try to get some when we fly from Germany to the States and then back this Summer, I don't do well on flights either. |

I like to use benedryl as it is not habit forming and it will help you sleeping. It works just as well as Ambien and it is over the counter. I recommend only taking one tablet to sleep not two. As with any medication that will put you to sleep you want to be careful when flying on long hauls:
1. You want to still be able to wake if necessary in the event of any type of emergency and
2. Plus during any flight you need to get up and move around a bit to help in order to prevent DVT; blood clotting from immobility. This usually only affects people with other help issues, but it could happen to anyone. Read more in the link below:

Where i'm from there is a dollar store that has nite time sleep aid and that is what they are called. 24 pills for $1.50 and they are awsome. I startes out at 2 pills but after 3 months I had to take 4 , and after an hour I was out. That was when I was working day shift. |

A sleep aid from CVS or eckerd works ok, or alprazolam (generic xanax) if you can get your hands on some. |
