American Airlines is a very safe airline, every airline in the United States is very safe.
Turbulance is not dangerous at all. Planes can take ALOT of turbulance, more turbulance than 95% of pilots ever experiance in their life. Turbulance is nothing to be scared of.
Your chances of being involved in an aircraft accident are about 1 in 11 million. On the other hand, your chances of being killed in an automobile accident are 1 in 5000. Statistically, you are at far greater risk driving to the airport than getting on an airplane. However, the perception is that you have more control over your fate when you are in your car than as a passenger traveling on an airplane. Experience shows otherwise, considering that over 50,000 people are killed on the highways every year. Media coverage would suggest that airline crashes happen every day. Studies have shown one would have to fly once a day every day for over 15,000 years in order to statistically be involved in an aircraft accident"
Flying is very very safe. Donâ€™t worry about terrorists that is the least likely thing to go wrong on a commercial flight in the US these days. Flying in the United States is very safe, there has not been a major airline crash in the US since November of 2001! That is a long time for no major crashes and only on fatality in the last seven years for the Major Airlines in the US.
Even when there is a problem on an airplane, if an engine fails on takeoff or an engine fire etc.. 99% of the time the plane lands safely. Planes these days are amazing piece of technology and the pilots are trained better than ever. If you not afraid to drive in a car you should not be afraid to fly in a plane.
Just sit back relax and try to enjoy the flight. Its one of the safest things you can do much safer than driving a car, walking down the street, or even sleeping in your house. More people have died on North American highways in the year 2006 than the amount of people who have died in powered flight aviation whole 104 year history!
Also the best way to completely get over your fears is go to you local General aviation airport and take flying lessons! Once you fly in a small airplane a few times and learn that airplanes fly and thatâ€™s all they do you will be much more confident with flying on commercial planes. You will learn a lot with a few flying lessons. I could even teach you a lot by just showing you my Microsoft Flight Simulator. Flying is a great experience, once you get used to it and learn what makes airplanes fly etc.. your fears go away trust me, I used to be a little bit scared to fly too. Now I LOVE it.

Ive only flew on one airline that I questioned, and that was a local airline on the other side of the world. Once you get to cruising altitude, everything should be smooth sailing. Most of the time I find that any turbulance comes when descending toward the end of the flight. Other people have already tried to reassure you that its safe, so think of it as an adventure. Also, after the flight attendants get done with the busy part of their routine, get out of your seat and go back to the galley and see what's going on. 10 hours is a long time to sit. On my last flight from Chicago to Tokyo, I took the flight crew a big box of expensive candy and made friends quickly. Little shows of appreciation to them go a long way. We chatted for a couple of hours. It took my mind off the length of time I was in the air. I dont mind flying but I hate anything over about 4 hours. Good luck on your adventure.........

I LOVE long flights. I take my ipod, a good book, a pillow, and hope to sit next to an interesting, clean person. Maybe there'll be a movie you'll want to see. People serve you food and drinks...It's great!

If you are really anxious about it, you can talk to your doctor about taking Xanax. It helps me on long flights.

ignore that guy he was just being a jerk. all airlines are safe and they wouldn't be operating if they weren't. Don't be scared and just relax, the less nervous you are, the less time it will seem to take. take advantage of that buffet cart and gameboys...lol. Good luck with your flight

All US airlines have an excellent safety records, Don't be scared you're in safe hands, To me flying is a bad experience ONLY if I don't get a window seat!!

Hey I sat in an airplane on the tarmac for 7 hours do to a storm we couldn't fly out. Trust me you'll be fine. From now on I am booking all my flights for the middle of the night or early morning before 8 am less chance of delays at airports. Unless of course the weather doesn't cooperate.
You'll be fine just get up and use the bathroom now and then. American is good.

chill relax it will be fine don't its a great airline my mom flys it all the time also so ya know every flight has tuberlace its normal and just remember to take a walk on the airplane so not to get blood cots dont freak itll be fine so chill out

american airlines isnt too bad. you will probably be flying though chicago (often weather delayed and absurdly busy) or dallas...summer storms suck everywhere...but texas is worst than most...and american eagle is one of those outsourced airline regional jet operators...so sticking to major cities is usually more convenient because the employee arent $7 an hour burger flippers...thats all the bad...but they are an overall pretty good airline (if u can say that about any major north american airline these days)
