I'm planning on flying to mexico this dec & coming back on the second week of jan, do i need my passport?

No, you dont need you passport if you are traveling back on ground before january 23rd, but to fly back theres a new law that you must have your passport if your flying back to the US so if you do not have you passport yet you can travel back through ground and use your birth certificate or california ID

The deadline is past. You need a passport, without one the airlines won't even let you on the plane. Go to www.travel.state.gov. This is the US State Dept. website, you can roam around there and find all the info you need. There are procedures for getting a passport in a rush.

Since you are flying you definitely need your passport. I forgot if the rule was if you are crossing the border by driving, a birth certificate is good enough. Hopefully you worked on getting your passport as soon as you knew about your trip. Sometimes it takes awhile depending on how many other people are getting their passports as well. If you pay extra, you can have the passport expedited, otherwise you can go to the US Embassy or Consolate office.

i'm pretty sure that you would need your passport every time, no matter how long you go for. i would take it with you, and at least then if you take it and dont need it, it's better than not having it with you.

yas you nned your passport to get back into the country! It takes about 6 weeks to get to you in the mail! Have fun in Mexico

Yes you do need your passport to go to mexigo for a few weeks. When I got my passport it took like 5 weeks but BRING YOUR BIRTH CERTIFICATE

You've needed a passport to leave (and return to) the USA for quite a while now. And there is a HUGE waiting list - took my sister almost 9 months to get hers. I know you can pay out the nose if you "MUST" have it within two weeks.

Yes you need a passport. Depending on where you live, it can take 12-16 weeks to get a passport. Call your passport agency and inquire about getting a faster turnaround. It'll be expen$ive, but you may want to do it just to play it safe.
