Virginia and Tennessee are really close. I agree, you should just drive. |

know that take offs are somewhat a sexual experience and remember that the pilot doesn't want to die either. |

Look at it this way... if the plane crashes your problems are over and if the plane lands OK your problems are over... either way your problems are over... so enjoy the flight. |

Don't be scared, flying is great! I've been flying 2-3 per year for my entire life and have never once had a "scary" flight. It's much safer than driving. |

Just take it easy and relax, my dad had to get over his fear of flying. Once he did he felt a lot better, just know it's not a big deal. If the case is you can't relax for anything, there are pills you can take to make you calm down, look into it, I can't remember the name of some that work well.
good luck with this, remember you'll be fine. |

Dramamine, sweetie ...
:-)
I hate to fly, too!
Also: that is why they serve alcohol on airplanes ...
Have a drink, fall asleep, and wake up in Tennessee, sweetie!

Before you get to the airport...
Ingest liberal quantities of Xanex and maryjane...
Try to time it so the medication is hitting you at it's peak when you get on the plane, and then pop a few sleeping tablets on top of that...
And then sit down and go quietly to sleep...they'll wake you when you get there...
(And don't worry...none of the airlines show the movie "Snakes On A Plane...") |

I'm thinking that you should first calm yourself down by taking deep breaths. Reasure yourself that everything will be fine by just repeating "I'll be fine" in your head. It worked for me, and hopefully it'll work for you.
Best of luck. |

Flying is the safest form of travel. Try seeing if perhaps your doctor can prescribe you some xanax to calm your nerves before flying. It's not worth quitting over unless your job is to fly often. |

if you really want to go but just not on the plane, then just try getting the courage to go, and you never know, you might actually like it, and if you dont, atleast you've tried!
good luck x |

Once at the airport, take a deep breath in and out to relax yourself. Once boarding, think of it as riding a bus, only the highways are up in the clouds. Once in the plane, don't worry about anything, listen to music, or read books, anything that will make your ride smoother and forget that you're even in an airplane. Now, I'm not from the states, but I've seen previous answers that Virginia and Tennessee aren't that far so, 1-3 hrs shouldn't kill you. All you have to do is fasten your seatbelt and tell the flight attendant what you want to drink when they serve drinks. Other than that, feel free to recline and get your mind off of it. It's like any kid has dreamed of: Floating in the sky - like flying!
Hope this helps. Enjoy your flight!
There's nothing to be scared of!
And please, don't quit your job. It's only 1 or 2 plane trips. It's like riding your bike for the first time! |

you could talk to your dr about giving you some meds for anxiety/panic attacks and take it about 30 minutes b4 flying. |

go to your dr. and they will prescribe you valium. that will relax you during your flight.
also look up on youtube for guided meditations to help you calm down a little over flying...
it is perfectly normal though to have some fear of flying...
good luck! |

you could take a bus, drive a car, or even try to find a train. go in the taxi if you have to. i have been in the plane numerous amounts of times and NOTHING bad has happened. You just have to relax when you go in and it's a very short flight. ask your job to give you first class where there's a lot of space, a lot of drinks and snacks to calm you down. and the flight attendants will be a lot nice and patient with you. good luck |

don't take sleeping pills..you might get too relaxed..and the airlines might mistake you for being drunk and unable to follow instructions. Bring a CD player and listen to music. This worked great for my wife who has the same difficulty as you do my friend. |

Don't ever quit your job because of these fears. and never ever let your fear overwhelm you so much. Think like this : the probability of plane crash is negligible in comparison to Road accidents, so it's more safe and convenient to travel by air.
You must read this article : http://www.abcarticledirectory.com/Article/Flying-without-Fear/43007
Hope it will help you. Good Luck.

There is no reason to be afraid to fly. However, if you have panic attacks and are really scared, then just drive. It might take you longer, but you'll feel safer. |

watch the movie "Alive" and "Final Destination 1" first before boarding and always think that there will be plane crash or terrorist aboard on the plane...that will help you relax and have a peaceful flight... |

Jeez, I really feel for you. Next time I'm in a boomer of a thermal and my base tube gets yanked out of my hand by the sheer forces of the 1000 feet per minute updraft, putting me into a 70 degree bank and a full stall, I'll think of you. |
