I'm terrified of checking my luggage...?

I'm afraid it will get lost or that someone else will steal it off of the carousel.

I mean like when I get to my destination.

What's the likelyhood of this happening?

On average, about 2-3% of checked luggage ends up missing or stolen. So, looking at the numbers, it's very unlikely that you'll lose your luggage.

I know quite a few people who fly all the time, and of all the people I know, only one person lost their luggage one time, and it was back in the 70s. However, everyone else I know has never had their luggage get lost or stolen.

Plus, with the addition of so many security regulations for what you can have in your carry-on, it's nearly impossible to travel for more than a few days with just a carry-on. It is possible, but it's a difficult challenge, unless you want to buy most of your toiletries when you get to your destination.

that doesn't happen, haha.

the baggage doesn't come onto the carousel until a while after you get there, remember they need to unload all of the luggage and put it on the belt. if you stand by the opening no one can grab your bag before you see it.

i've never heard of someone's luggage getting lost forever, but if you're really worried a site like travelocity will give you insurance on your baggage if you reserve your flight through them. if your bag gets lost you may get it when you arrive at your next destination, within hours or days. it completely depends, but it's never wrecked my vacation. just make sure you have your important stuff and a change of clothes in your carry-on.

Unfortunately this is just one of the risks of travelling. Make sure you have travel insurance and be organised as far as getting through to the baggage claim area and stand near where the bags appear and you should usually be okay. Of course bags do occasionally go missing and yes some people are thieves but remember virtually all the people standing there are fellow travellers who are also worried about losing their baggage and are probably not too concerned with yours. All the best for your travels.

Cannot avoid it but it is helpful if you buy TRIP INSURANCE then you have some money back besides the reimbursement cua Airlines.

If you're so terrified find a safe secure place to check it with no one around e.g a friends/family member house
