I used to take Diazepam but found that they made me feel sick and woozy, even after the flight had landed. I now swear by Bach's Rescue Remedy spray, and Kalms tablets. Both of these are herbal remedies and can be bought over the counter at any decent pharmacy. I take 3 tablets about half an hour before the flight is due to leave, and the spray can be used at any time to calm you down. I also read a good book called freedom from the fear of flying - but I can't remember the author. You could find it on the internet though, or in your local library. Just focus on getting to your destination. Let the lead air hostess know how you feel, they'll be reassuring and keep an eye on you. Have a good flight. |

Not sure if you can get this in the UK but it is over the counter in the US. Melatonin is great. I take it on flights back from the US and sleep, even in cattle class, for most of the flight. It certainly helps and I never suffer jet lag. It will relax you for sure. It is herbal and non addictive so no worries. |

Forget the drugs,Sit in middle front & look ahead there is nothing to feel or hear just do your usual breathing exercises & you will be amazed how quickly time flies. |

I'm not scared of flying but I do get bored out of my mind when flying long haul - I tend to get on, eat the meal, take 2 sleeping tablets and put the sticker on that reads 'wake me for breakfast'
Sleeping tablets are a good option - depends if you'd be allowed to take it on a transatlantic flight at the moment?!? |

I would recommend taking a 1/2 dose before you have to board the plane and, once seated the other half. Make a note of what time you took the first dose (the second half dose) so that you will know at what time you may take your next one...IF NEEDED.
I have travelled internationally for 30 years and know many people for whom Diazepam has worked. Some of them, even though initially terrified, end up sleeping through part of the trip.
Enjoy your trip. |

I hate it too, my gp gave me diazepam but I never took them as I feel it may makes be woozy, I just took couple of aspirin to deal with headache and pray. I am invited to a wedding next year in Texas and worrying how I am going there if I don't fly, wish we have beaming technology. |

Diazepam rules, take 20mg as soon as they start boarding and by the time you lift off the edge will most certainly be gone. I dont like flying much either but as I live 4000 miles from home base, ive had to get over it. Its the same with any fear, its up to you if you wanna let it rule you not! |

No please don't deal with the problem using Valium, it is toxic junk and only masks the problem. Face the fear and do a "fear of flying" course at your local Airport. You will not concur the problem any other way and Diazepam/ Valium is not only highly addictive, once you get hooked it stops working on your anxiety and infact makes it ten times worse! Valium has only one use, as antidote to severe epileptic seizures. |

pop a pill and have a glass of wine. when you wake up, pop another. and if you smoke, get some patches. the last plane i was on almost fell out of the sky.....literally, there were even news people on the ground when we landed in nashville.
trust me.....take the medicine......tell your attendant, they are used to it....will keep an eye on you. |
