I've lost my passport, is there any way to get another by tommorow morning?

I leave for Europe tommorow morning and have lost my passport. I have a copy of the front. Is there any way to do something in order for me to be allowed to travel?

Passports aren't something the government gives away hastily. Rip you're house apart to find it, it will probably be easier than trying to get another one that fast. Normally it takes a couple months. Especially if you can't find the other one. They're liable to think you sold it on the black market or something. American passports are a hot commodity in many foreign countries.

whatever state you are in has a post office that actually issues the passport or federal building that does this. go there and they can help

There are many companies that offer 24hr services for a large price. Typically you will need the following:
--Letter of Authorization - which gives the agency the permissiont to act on your behalf.
--Order Form
--Two Passport Photos - Kinkos is great for getting them quick)
--Proof of US Citizenship - Old passport or Birth Certificate or Naturalization papers, or Certificate of citizenship
--Proof of Identity - Drivers license photocopy,
--Travel Evidence - copy of plane ticket or travel itinerary
--DS-11 & DS-64 government forms - available online
--Fees - Governement fees and Agency Fees.

Remember all lost passport applications need to have their applications authorized local governement official who are Acceptance Agents. Not all officials can do it so check before you go.

Getting a replacement passport in 24 hrs is hard but not impossible.

Hey wakesetter, you discover your missing p-port the day before u lv??? Wasn't a priority was it? You'll be at the airport sucking in jetwash.

If you were in Europe and you loose your US passport you can go to the Embasy and they can issue you one on the spot. Not sure about being in the U.S and loosing it. I would say check their website.

yes - but it might take some serious effort on your part.
Some cities have a Passport Services Agency. Go there asap and you can get a new passport if your existing one is lost or stolen

here is the link to where all the centers are:
http://travel.state.gov/passport/about/agencies/agencies_913.html
there are in
Boston
Chicago
Aurora CO
Norwalk CT
Honolulu
Houston
Los Angeles
Miami
New Orleans
New York
Philadelphia
San Francisco
Seattle
Washington DC
most are open from 9 am to 4 pm or 8 am to 3 pm.
go. now!

one of my friends lost his passport the morning he was to fly to europe for another friends' wedding. he managed to rearrange his flights so he could fly to LA, take a cab to the passport office, get a replacement and then fly from LA towards Europe, and managed to get to the wedding on time.

You need to get ahold of the local passport office and see if you can have one expedited. A copy of a passport will not allow you to check in for your flight much less leave or enter the US or enter another country. This late in the afternoon, you are going to be at a loss. It usually takes a full 24 hours to recieve anything on expedite, and sometimes 48 hrs. You need to call the airline and get an idea of how much it will cost to reprice the ticket. International Repricing can be expensive. Most change fee's start at a minimum of $100 or $200 plus or minus the difference in the fare. If you used a bulk website like Hotwire, Cheap Tickets, Priceline etc, you need to call them. Most times those fares are so binding you can not change them no matter what. In the mean time, get busy looking for your passport. Honestly, if it is truely lost and you can not find it....odds are you will miss your flight in the morning. So, get on the phone, call the local passport agency and then call the airline and make alternate arrangements. Either way, I hope you have plenty of room on your credit card, both options can be very expensive depending on what you are able to spend.
