You will get as many answers as there are people.
I am terrified of enclosed spaces, so I don't fly.
Most people say it is really restful and they like
it very much. My friend has been flying since she
was 5. She has never been afraid. You will just
have to see for yourself. Think positive and try
to relax. I hope you have a great time.

Take off and landing are a little scary. Make sure you bring some Tylenol or something like that because you will get a headache. Drink lots of water too it helps

Its feels like a car goes faster than a plane but of course a plane goes faster. When u decent or ascent your ears might feel a little presurized but chewing gum will help. Its acuattly quite "cool" seeing buildings and cars and other land stuff from the air. The rest experience ill leave it to you to fell what its like to fly the friendly skies

Not a lot to it. Take off and landing are interesting, but otherwise it is like being on a bus.

If you are on a long flight stand up and streach every 2 hours, it really helps and makes a big difference.

goalaska
Don't sweat it. It's like riding on a big bus .

Tight security, be ready to remove shoes, belt and any other metallic objects from your person at the security check point. Bring gum because cabin pressure might mess with your ears since you are not a regular flyer. All electronics must be in off position once departure from the gate to 10,000 feet. Once above 10,000 only certain electronics are approved for use (listed in the back of the airline's magazine). Cell phone use is never permitted once departed from the gate. No liquids or gels over 3.5 oz allowed in carry on bags. If you are carrying liquids under 3.5 oz they must be place separately in a clear plastic bags. Only 4.4 lbs of dry ice allow per customer (for frozen goods).

Flying is the most comfortable convenient and fastest way to travel, i believe you will enjoy your experience flying, and keep in mind this is the safest transportation available.

Depends if you're exited or anxious...... It's totally different to cars and boats.... The best part for me is seeing the curvature of the earth at altitude and seeing the coastlines and cities from height. Night flying over major cities is fabulous too... Yes it may get bumpy on approach to landing and the take off can be a little unnerving when you climb steeply, but enjoy it for what it is - a part of the holiday / trip. Let me know how you get on!

wizebloke
OK, SO THIS IS GETTING LONGER THAN I EXPECTED. THERE ARE SOME THINGS THAT WILL BE HELPFUL FOR YOU THOUGH ... Have Fun, next weekend

Before getting on, Security check for lugguge going on the plane. If you want to take nail clippers, or anything they'll look twice at, put that stuff in the luggae that goes underneath the plane, not your carry on-board bag.

Take on board some chewing gum! (You'll thank me for this later)

Dress with the thought you may be sitting (like on a bus) with a stranger beside you for an hour ... so no matter who you are meeting at your destination, don't dress in mini skirt or low cleavage on the plane (esp if you're a guy)

The airport has some VERY expensive things to buy while waiting for your plane ... buy a coffee, but otherwise, think ahead.

Check how long before you get on the plane the airline wants you to get there. Sometimes they won't let you on if you get there less than an hour or so before. (Hey, better to sit with a lot of relaxed people than someone sweating after running for his seat)

EARS POP ! Just munch on that Chewing gum during take off and landing, and that should help. (like diving deeper than 2 meters (6 feet) in water, there is pressure build up on your ear drums)

Window seat or isle? You'll want to look out every now and again to make your experience greater. (even on very cloudy days, you'll come out in sunlight and see the wonderland of the tops of clouds - at night, you'll see your city from a very different angle)
Isle seats are better if you want to get to the bathroom easier ... (go before you get on the plane)

picking up your bags at your destination, you'll realize lots of people have luggage like yours. Wrap a ribbon around your handle and you'll see it easier. (Don't let it dangle too far out or it will get caught in conveyer belts.)

IF SCARED IN THE PLANE ... look at one of the staff. They know what is normal and what is a problem. As long as they are calm, you don't have to be worried, even during the worst of storms.

My first time flying was in 2002. Everyone kept telling me oh your gonna love to fly. Not true. I hate it. Yea it gets me where I want to go fast but thats about it. Looking out the window is pretty neat. All the houses and stuff are so tiny. I'm not scared to fly just not a fan of it. Take a cd player, or ipod or laptop or dvd player you can use those after your in the air. No cell phones. They tell you when to turn them off and when you can turn them back on. The bathrooms are so tiny you can barely move. There are lights and fans above your head so you can adjust your lighting and if you want air. They do give you snacks, cookies or crackers and soda. I am sure you will be fine. Hopefully you will like it much better then I do. Have a safe trip.

greentea
its nice, you should try this experience.

The only thing I've been in was a helicopter. My son flew from Florida and he was bored. It depends, I guess, on the airline.

It's like being on a mild roller coaster, except you feel more secure. And they serve you refreshments, usually.
