I've never been on an airplane. What can I expect?

I'm 16 years old and have always been terrified of airplanes. This April, I'm going to Atlantis (in the Bahamas), and I have to fly, unfortunately. Can anyone describe what it's like to be on a plane to me? The feelings, atmosphere, etc. I'm mainly scared that I'll start to feel queasy on the plane, although I don't get motion sickness of any kind. Any tips/whatever would be great :)

the first time i went on a plane, i think i was about 13, i was surprised how small it was. like being inside a bus, but smaller. that kind of freaked me out. but once you get used to it, youll be fine.
i suggest not taking a window seat right away until you feel very comfortable.
bring a good book to distract yourself if you are feeling funky. it can be kind of surreal up there. but remember, you are VERY safe, and soon you will be in the bahamas!
also, the funnest part is taking off!!!!

just remember that you're more likely to die walking across the street than flying

it's a fun experience, but yes most planes are quite cramped and small, hopefully you won't sit next to or in between fat people

just think about how much fun you're going to have at Atlantis resort

the main thing is just try and stay relaxed and think that most of the world has used airplanes as a means of transportation. If they were dangerous, then it would not be being used today. As far as feelings go.. there is a bit of a gravitational sensation when taking off, however it quickly disappears and its smooth flying from there on. Also, the cabin is pressurized so you wont feel any change in air pressure etc. For me flying on an airplane is fun. Make sure you get a window seat!!

my dad is a pilot an has been for his whole life. No reason to feel uneasy about it. I hve been on airplanes many times as well. The actual plane ride.. Take off is probably the scariest part because the plane is really loud and shaky feeling and it feels like a steep incline when you get off the ground, but there is nothing to worry about. The actual duration of the flight you can hardly tell you are flying. You may encounter some turbulence but the plane just jerks a little bit here and there, but once again, no big deal. When you land you gradually decrease your altitude over a long period of time and touchdown, depending on the pilot can be very smooth or you can feel a big bump when landing. Overall it really isn't necessary to fret over it. The only nuisance is the noise sometimes, especially depending on the seat you have. Good luck! Have fun!

you will be fine, I was nervous but it was over nothing. When you get on the plane they go through the standard safety run through, you put on your seat belt and what not.. when you talk off its more like accelerating in a car, but a little faster, lol. When you are in the air, its just smooth, but its gets cold... there is nothing to worry about..

I am a frequent flyer and my first time on the plane was when I was three months. Not that I remember but my next time was when I was six and I just got back from a trip to NJ not too long ago. Don't worry. There is a seatbelt like a car, but if you are in first class or coach makes quite a difference. The first class has leather seats and more leg room. Coach has less leg room and cloth seats. You can control the air flow with a twist nob above your head. You can recline a little bit :)

Nothing to worry about :) It's fun :) There are sick bags if you need it :)
The treats on planes are really spendy so I would bring a bag of chips or something, but remember no liquids are allowed on the plane :)

Well...once you get on the plane, it will first reach speeds of 150mph to 200mph and then the aircraft will eventually start to lift and it will go up and you will be able to see traffic if you look out the window and then before you know, you are up in the air. The take off is quite fun especially if you have a window seat. If you go to youtube.com, just search for "plane take off" and you will see what i'm talking about. There are tons of videos on there. I have never flown before either myself haha, but I'm just telling you what you can expect. Since you are afraid to fly, have you considered "driving" to the bahamas? LOL LOL LOL LOL. I'm just being an idiot lol

Its very easy. planes are fun. Bring an Mp3 player or ipod or something to do. Trust me, after a while you'll get bored. You have to bring gum. It will help you feel fresh and it help not to have your ears pop.

pansyfancysocks
Airplanes are not that scary. When you are on an airplane, taking off is not that scary and actually kind of exciting because you are going fast and then you can feel when you are off the ground. Airplanes are pretty loud, and you will hear it "hum" in the background, but its no big deal. I get motion sickness all of the time, and I never feel sick on a plane. Make sure to bring stuff to do, b/c it gets really boring sitting there. It's also good to stretch in the hallways of the plane once in a while, so your legs don't get cramped up. Maybe at the ascent and probably at the descent, your ears will "pop." Like, something happens to the air pressure, and everything sounds quieter until your ears "pop." It's not as weird as I'm explaining it, I, just, am not explaining it well... Well, if you open your mouth real wide or chew on gum if your ears feel weird, it should help. OH and don't forget to look out the window, because it is soooo cool!!!!

Happy Flying!!
