I feel just like you and I've had 200 flights. In fact I'm flying in the morning. It really is just your mind working overtime. I wanted to see places I've only dreamed about and the only way to do it was to fly there. The only thing you can do is to keep your mind occupied. Read a book, listen to your favourite music, do a crossword. I was given advice on all the medication I could take but I didn't want that. The first flight was difficult but once your up there you may surprise yourself how relaxing it can be.

its a frame of mind.
flying is safer than crossing a road,
problem is we have to do that as well
claustrophobic? fly on big plane and open the window
but almost seriously, try a bottle of vodka or valium

How afraid? If you can't even get on the plane you need some anxiety therapy with a professional counsellor.

If you can get on the plane but are really anxious and have sweaty palms, then regulate your breathing (5 slow counts in, hold for 3 counts, 5 slow counts out). Distract yourself by saying affirmations or reading something or talking to someone.

As for claustrophobia - just avoid small places. It is a natural fear.

see a therapist! self medicating before a flight will cause nothing but trouble!!

i am afraid of flying too,so the way i overcame it is to be really sleepy so when you get on the plane you can put a pillow on your knees and sink your head into it and before you know it you are there. good luck to you

No-one is afraid of flying. Its crashing they are afraid of!

Benadryl will make you sort of drowsy and almost in a dreamlike state. Perhaps you will even be lucky enough to sleep right through that flight.

Tell your doctor about your fear and ask him for a beta blocker.
